Restored mansion of 1860 in Sucre, the constitutional capital of Bolivia, with one of the best preserved colonial city centers of Latin America. The building is converted into a comfortable hotel maintaining the old structure and style but combined with modern facilities and design. This gives it a unique character, with striking decorations and hand-made wooden furniture in the tradition of a real boutique hotel. The hotel is part of the Historic Center of Sucre and offers spacious garden, courtyard - patio, rooms and terraces with splendid views over the old city and mountains. Free use of the gym and of WiFi all over the place.

Villa Antigua is very nice hotel located in the centre of Sucre. Built in the 18-sixties as a mansion, it was completely renovated in 2009. The hotel offers 21 rooms over 3 floors, and has a garden, a nice patio, a large top floor terracce, a gym & steambath, a breakfast restaurant, and a charming café. Free Wi-Fi. Staff is friendly and helpful. Our room was adequately furnished & decorated, with table & chair, TV & fridge, a high ceiling, wardrobe & safe, and a good queensize doublebed. We had a separate bathroom with toilet, washbasin & shower over the bath. The large window opens into the patio but has no mosquito screen. All was very clean. The buffet breakfast is good: bread, rolls & toast, ham & cheese, eggs made to order, butter & marmalade, fruit & juice, cereals, yoghurt & mineral water, tea & coffee. We found Vila Antigua comfortable and very quiet and we had a good stay. Good value-for-money. Highly recommended.

Dear guest, thank you very much for your detailed comments, very much appreciated. Just a minor complementation: we don´t have mosquito screens, because mosquitos are very rare in Sucre, to not say absent, thanks to the high altitude. Enjoy the rest of your trip in Bolivia.

Reception staff helpful in getting my bag up to the third floor (no lift). Wifi good at reception and in breakfast room (one floor up), but very unstable in my top floor room, despite separate rooter just outside. Large room - however one small radiator not enough to get it warm enough during limited hours of operation. Beware of very hot shower - turn up warm tap slowly! Good breakfast buffet - eggs prepared separately on request. Convenient location close to central square.

Dear guest, Thanks for your qualification. The problem with the wifi router is solved now, sorry for the inconvenience. Regarding the heating, you can ask for the hour to put it on. We dont have it continously functioning as the Andes climate has a great difference between night and day temperature, so normally it is not needed during the day and we save on carbon emission. We hope you have a great time in the rest of your travel through Bolivia.

Can I give it an 11 out of 10 ????? Lovely old building with great views from the rooftop. Decor was quite charming and handmade wood furniture was unique and stylish. Beds were firm, but not hard, and hot water flowed copiously. Staff was extremely helpful. Due to contested election, the streets were blocked from dawn til dark, so when we had to go to the airport, we had to leave super early. The management was kind enough to set up breakfast almost an hour early, just for us. Muy Sympatico !!!

This hotel was an old house well remodel. Like old houses mainly all the rooms are facing the interior what makes them more quiet but we like facing out with more light and view. We reserved initially the suite on the top of the hotel for that reason that was a big and nice room but dark and almost not view for our taste so we had changed for another room much smaller but with 2 windows on the terrace with light and views. Furnitures is really nice. Good customer service and very good breakfast. The only critic I made is the heating. The hotel provides central heat that you cannot control it and we spent 6 days at the hotel because I was sick and we had to request 2 or 3 times a day for the heat to be turn on. Since I was sick the hotel helped me with contacting a good doctor and pharmacy. The hotel is very well located and very easy to walk everywhere. Sucre is a nice town.

We had a very good experience at this hotel. We found the service to be fine, we were helped with our luggage, and always found the staff to be very polite and helpful. The room was spacious, and the views from the upstairs terrace were fantastic. Breakfast was very good also and they even specially cooked gluten free pancakes!

This is a convenient hotel in central Sucre. All the tourist sites are within walking distance. The standard of the rooms were adequate and the building itself is nice. However the service leaves a lot to be desired. I arrived with a very heavy bag. There was no elevator, so I was struggling with it. To my surprise, the young gentleman who showed me the room just looked at me and did not bother to offer any help. I found this very unprofessional. Also, upon checking out, the receptionist wanted us to pay VAT for the room, even though foreigners are exempt from paying VAT for hotel accommodation in Bolivia. We had to show them a website from the government indicating that VAT was not applicable to us and then had to talk to the owner to avoid paying that tax. Kind of annoying.... Overall it is not a bad place, but their personnel need to get at least some basic training in customer service.

Tourists staying in Bolivia for less than 30 days are exempt from paying the 13% IVA lodging tax. This hotel charges tourists the 13% tax, even though these guests are exempt. It’s a shame the hotel undertakes this unfair billing practice, because the setting and location was nice, as was the breakfast.

Dear guest, thanks for apreciating the setting and location of the hotel, as well as our services. Regarding the tax exemption, I think you use an inappropiate term. We have equal prices for national and foreign visitors, the price indicated in the reservation is the price you pay and where ever possible/relevant we are totally transparent on it. There is no Bolivian law that states that foreign tourists pay 13 % less than national tourists, on the opposite there is a policy intention saying that the government promotes price difference in benefit of Bolivian tourists to encourage them to travel and know there own country. That is our motivation for applying equality in price, at least. I don´t know what is unethical about this? And I like to repeat: we are totally transparent about it.

Location and building itself are not too bad but does not have an elevator and most beds are sofa beds. Located on a busy loud street with street noise. Manager/owner is mean, lies a lot and likes to advantage of innocent travelers. For example she disrespects our reservation after we've paid in full, and on the day we check out refused to store our luggage till later in the day without a ridiculous extra charge. (Unheard of in the thousands of places we've stayed at around the world!) Totally rude and unprofessional. A total waste of money, we ended up moving somewhere just a couple blocks away, which is way cheaper and way nicer.

Dear client, Your review needs a clarification. Our hotel has only 3 floors, including ground floor and we had availability on the ground floor if walking up two stairs would have been a problem for you. Our beds are of very good quality as you can see in other reviews. You didn´t want our triple room, which is on the ground floor, in between the patio and the garden, but preferred a double room with additional sofa cama for the three people in your group, so we were flexible, although the room was already booked for the extra day you required later. You stayed the two nights you booked, so I don´t understand the disrespect of your reservation. Several people called the hotel an oasis in Sucre, exactly because inside the hotel you don´t feel your in the middle of a (colonial) city center, due to the thick adobe walls, the vegetation in the patio and garden, and because the traffic in the street is going downwards, not making a lot of noise. Respects needs to come from both sides, and we can´t expose our staff to any threat, including to put this kind of review in Tripadvisor. We are happy that you found a better in Sucre, according to your criteria, which confirms that Sucre is good place to be, with a variety of services.

Villa Antigua is close to Plaza De Armis and many of Sucre’s museums and sights. Helpful staff, and we really appreciated the early check in after our bus ride from Uyuni. Only issues were that WiFi was weak in the room (but fine in the common areas) and plumbing was a bit noisy. But overall, a very good place to stay.
