We just LOVE this beautiful property. The property is unique as it's a historical building and the management really put lots of thoughts to make the AMANTAKA experience extraordinary. The breakfast was great too, you can choose whatever on the a la carte menu. My husband had Lao breakfast every morning and he could never have enough of it. I... More

I had to think a long time about this review... I have never stayed at an Aman before and was thinking if I maybe missed something, or in time the perception I had when staying there would improve... Unfortunately I came to a contrary conclusion: this hotel -Aman or not Aman- is an absoulutely stunning, serene and very Zen place,... More

We went to see the Aman, what we usually do when we don't stay in one. We were not greeted or received when entering the premise. We looked for staff and finally got seated and ordered a classic cocktail. Drinks were really bad. I didnt drink it at all. We finally tried to catch a person to pay the bill.... More

It was our first Aman and we may have picked a wrong one to start with. We have not stayed with an Aman before so we have no idea how amazing the other Amans could be. But judging from our 3 nights stay with the Amantaka, we could only say it did not meet our expectation at all and the... More

We spent 3 nights there in March. Like many reviewers, we have visited several other Amans. The thing I liked about this one is that it took over and perfected existing architecture, so it is not a cookie-cutter environment. The grounds are very peaceful. This resort is not isolated from the town of Luang Prabang, so you do indeed hear... More

To be honest, after reading some average feedbacks on TP regarding Amantaka, we were really worried and almost wanted to change our plans... Fortunately we haven't cause our recent experience at Amantaka has been one of the most memorable we have been lucky to experience. Sincerely if somebody has something to complain about this amazingly managed property, i'm afraid nothing... More

We have stayed in many Amans and travel a lot but this is the second worst after Tahiti. The Aman experience can be ethereal but can sometimes miss the boat. Its all relative of course. We wonder whether the financial background is being translated into a certain slackness or whether it is an individual management issue. The property initially beckons... More

Worth a visit, true value for money, the Pool Villas are worth it. Try chartering their river boat with a butler for a sunset cruise. Some dining room waiters may need some additional training on western expectations of speed. The airport VIP service is worth every penny.

We stayed at Amantaka for 2 nights and a Lao-owned guesthouse, Villa Chitadara II, for 2 nights. Frankly we preferred the guesthouse -- it was a warmer, more local, more interesting experience, with chattier Lao staff, cosier room and river view, not to mention the far lower rate ($50/night)! Of course the Aman property was extremely spacious & aesthetically pleasing,... More
