Reasonable price (even during high season), clean rooms, good breakfast, and only 15 minutes walk from the Dioclesian palace. This is Dujam Hotel. This hotel is clean and organized but also huge, charmless and soul less. Plus, location is bad. A converted student dorm, it feels like a cross between Soviet Eastern Bloc style architecture and a mental hospital. Basic and clean hotel, but just outside the city centre. Easy to get to by car from the airport and with plenty of free parking beside the hotel which is why I originally chose it as we had got an early flight to Split that morning. 20-30 minute walk to centre, probably can get a bus too. I enjoyed my stay at the Dujam for 7 nights in September 2008 & would recommend it. Location: The Dujam is about 20 minutes walk from the waterfront/port (where most of the transport, and the Diocletian's Palace is, with restaurants, bars etc).
