My wife and I do a great deal of "seat of the pants" travel. We decide to go some place, stop along the way and hope that we find a decent place to stay. We have yet to have to sleep in our car. If you are driving through or to Annapolis, Maryland stay at the Annapolitan. We found it by chance driving down West Street, a main thoroughfare, at about 7 on a Friday evening. Obviously we had no reservation. The hosts, John and Jeanette, were out for dinner when I called the number on the front door. John advised that he had a room available for $130 per night. I discovered that was very reasonable for a B&B in the area. I don't know if these were off season prices or not, but it worked for me. He told me how to get in and which room to look for. A trusting soul, which I rather liked. They proved to be very accomodating and eager to help us in whatever we needed.
