While Mogadishu may seem to be an unusual holiday destination, my wife and I greatly fear tourist traps. Hence, we decided to try a week long break with family in Mogadishu (when you're dealing every day with two squabbling toddlers, how bad could internecine civil warfare be?). Our risk paid off. The Sahafi Hotel turns out to be a tremendous Mogadishian institution. Located just 5 minutes from the city centre (2 by blackhawk) the Sahafi is extremely lively. Unfortunately things did get a little out of hand on Friday night - my wife caught a bullet in the thigh. She laughed it off though, and, overall, I would have to recommend the wonderful Sahafi Hotel, and the devil may care people of Mogadishu. more
