Nice hotel to stay at in a central location. Walkable to most sights in the city. Rooms were very clean and the bed was comfortable. As someone else stated, our shower also leaked water all over the bathroom floor. It was almost as if the glass partition wasn't long enough. So don't leave anything on the floor you don't want... Good place to stay, would have stayed here again but the price went up about 25 USD for later in the week so stayed elsewhere. Awesome location, in the perfect area everything is walk able and is safe. If you are looking else where in Montevideo be really aware to not stay too close to the ferry terminal as it... More

Alvear is Like a $20 bill found in your sock drawer--it won't change your life, but it will start your day right. Rooms are old and hallways are noisy. However, Central location (supermercado very close, too), fair prices and amiable service leave a favorable impression. More

Just stayed one night at this hotel with my husband. It is centrally and convenientlly located (10 min walk to plaza independencia, old town and teatro solis) but the hotel was quite disappointing. CONS: the floor we stayed on (4th) had a stench of urine, the corridor leading to the room had no light, seems bulb was out, stand up... More

This hotel is just about to be a bad hotel, but it isn't. Furniture, walls, ceilings, everything is quite old and the "lobby" and restaurant are a bit depressing and dark. Elevator is quite weird, with no internal doors (you can see the walls between floors moving as if they were the elevator door), seems dangerous to me. Corridors follow... More

I stayed two nights at Alvear Hotel. It is located at Yi Street and 18 de Julio Avenue, which makes it perfect to explore the city. Although it is in the new part of Montevideo, the Historic Centre is very near, within walking distance. There is a supermarket half a block away on 18 de Julio Avenue (called Ta Ta)... More

LOCATION: Good, near the city center. It takes a 10 minutes walk to "Plaza Independencia" and the "Solis Theatre". Also, there are exchange offices and a supermarket called "Tata" right next to the hotel. ROOM: Dated. You realize it the minute they hand you a key instead of a key card. And, you are convinced that this is an old... More

Super friendly, helpful and queer friendly staff. They even lent us money to pay for the cab since we didn't have enough change. The hotel might be a bit old and out of fashion, but they make up for it with a clean room, comfortable beds, great service, nice breakfast and a central location. We would go back. More
