Staying at the Sanctuary Lodge was worth every cent...and it definitly costs a lot of pennies! The room it self is nothing special, you are definitely paying for the experience. To start we took the Hiram Bingham Train to Machu Picchu and the Orient Express took care of everything. The check in process was very smooth and the staff was... More

Sanctuary Lodge rooms are disappoinitng - typical Hampton Inn. Although hotel is by Orient Express, it does not live up to thier standards by any means when comparing to the others we have stayed in (i.e. Monasterio in Cusco, Miraflores park in Lima). But, their food and service are are excellent. The location is everything. Based on location, they can... More

We rode the Hiram Bingham train "down" to Machu Picchu. This property is not at all pretentious or ostentatious. It fits perfectly at the door to the park. The emphasis is to have the best quality while keeping ecologically conscious. Views and access is amazing. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Each room has a porch with lawn furniture so... More

Location is, as everyone says, amazing. It is also true that the hotel rooms are not large. But the staff is well organized and moves large numbers of people through the small place efficiently while making you feel that you are the only guests there. In the evening a candle is delivered to your room to contribute to the feeling... More

Had trouble booking on their website, so have to call their reservation line. The staff who took my booking was nice and helpful, and the booking process went smoothly. Stayed for one night in Room 14 Mountain View in late Nov 2011. Bags got picked up at the train station so you can tour Aguas Calientes before going up the... More

perched at the top of the mountain, literally steps from the archaeological site, is a first class hotel. Now.... the price.... I was a little taken aback by the price tag. But once i was there, it was well worth it. You literally feel you are on top of the world there. I ended up getting stranded and having to... More

It goes without saying that this location on earth is spectacular. We credit the Incas and Nature for that. We credit the wonderful employees of Orient Express for the best hotel stay in my life! My Son Zack and I arrived on site mid day without tickets to enter the the Lost City of Machu Picchu. The hotel dispatched someone... More

Visiting Peru and Macchu Picchu on a "once in a lifetime" holiday we couldn't stay anywhere else but the Sanctuary Lodge. Had to ignore the cost and justify it by making savings on less (much less!) luxurious hotels elsewhere where it didn't count. Think it was worth it. Went for a mountain view room with terrace and loved the luxury... More

We had a overnight stay, with a Pisco tea, dinner and breakfast in this wonderful hotel. With the last group out of the reserve as the sun was setting and being with the first groups in on a misty morning after, increased the drama and mystic of the city. One can almost imagine the magnificence of the Inca Empire and... More
