My husband and I stayed at Royal Frankenstein in October 2011 on two separate occasions whilst in Peru. Both times we had the same room, which was on the top floor; it was always clean and tidy with hot water. The owner Ludwig was always helpful and was a source of knowledge, especially if you were on a tight budget.... More

A extremely friendly hostel owner greats you with all the info you need. The doubles above Cucos rooftops felt like a home away from home. We couldn't have asked for more.

The Royal Frankenstein was fantastic for the price. We stayed for 5 nights while touring Cuzco. We walked to the nearby market and made our own meals almost every day. There were 3 amazing bakeries within 2 blocks. Ludwig gave us a list of restaurants/eateries around town that he would recommended, categorized by quality for low cost, types of cuisine,... More

First we must say that the hostel owner is really a nice guy. He has all the information a low-budget backpacker needs to experience the Andes and Maccu Piccu. However, the room we got (first floor in the back, Mary Shelley) - even though charming, the room smells of moist. The wool blankets for the beds felt as if they... More

I was in Cusco for about 6 Months, 2 of them I stayed in the Hostal "Frankenstein". In the beginning it was really nice. Because I´m german aswell I had a great understanding with the owner Ludwig. The only Problem was his wife, who blamed me for teeling money out of the fund. They called the Police and tryed to... More

We thought to save some money and stay at this hotel, but we really regreted it and moved to another hotel for our second night. First of all the hotel is dark, gloomy and cold! We were placed in one of the rooms at the top meaning it was probably the coldest! We asked for a heater for the night,... More

We stayed here for a couple of nights in July 2011. The Hostal appears quite dark and gloomy (hence the name Hostal Frankenstein) when you get there but it has great character and we got one of the top rooms which was really nice and bright and got a lot of sunlight. The owner is incredibly helpful and makes you... More

I am a single parent traveller who backpacked through Peru with my 10 year old daughter this summer. We had stayed in Cusco prior to visiting the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. We needed to return to Cusco for one night to catch a flight to the Amazon, so we booked this hostal in advance as it looked like an... More

I had reserved 2 nights at this hostel approximately a week in advance but when we arrived there were no vacancies. The manager/owner was apologetic but did not have anything to offer us forcing us to look elsewhere.

The best part of this hostel is the incredibly welcoming and friendly owner Ludwig, who's knowledgeable and always ready to help out the newcomers. There is a communal kitchen and wi-fi. The location is perfect, very close to all the action in Cuzco...it's only a 3 minute walk to the main square. We stayed here a total of 4 nights... More
