It should be noted that my partner, J, organized our month-long trip to Peru based largely upon reviews and recommendations found in Trip Advisor and our favorite guide book, Lonely Planet, so it’s a bit painful to report how disappointed we were with the guest house, La Casa de Melgar, in Arequipa, that was relatively highly rated in both places.... We stayed in one of the back rooms of this charming hotel and loved its incredible atmosphere, the delicious breakfast buffet and the ladies on the front desk who were very helpful. We found the location to be perfect. The night porter/person however, let us down when we requested a 2am wakeup call to go the Colca Canyon. The call... More

Selected this hotel based on other user reviews and Lonely Planet's editor's pick and I wasn't disappointed. I had a room in the back and it was extremely quiet. The nooks and crannies were fun to explore and the gardens and colorful walls were an artful eyeful. Good breakfast and very friendly staff. More

This is a well situated rustic/colonial-style hostal a couple of blocks from the church of San Francisco and the street of the same name which features much of what Arequipa has to offer in terms of nightlife. Substantial buffet breakfast included in the price of the room. Brick-walled bedroom was very cosy, but bathroom could have done with a little... More

It's true this hotel is very convenient for the town centre, pretty and full of character, but in every other way it was totally unsatisfactory for our winter stay in Peru. We were booked in for 2 separate stays and both our rooms were freezing cold with no heating and when we asked for a heater we were quoted extra... More

We stayed here twice, around a trip to Colca Canyon, and were put in the same room each time. It was a very large room in the back of the hotel about 100m from the street which made it nice and quiet. The only problem with the room was the dusty floors. They really needed to be mopped each day,... More

Deserves its reputation as an excellent place to say in Arequipa. Beautiful building, interesting rooms and very good servicein very good location that is easy walk to everything. Breakfasts were very good but don't start until 7am which can be tricky for early travellers. More

Booked a room here to stay tonight and am so worked up about it that I´ve decided to write my review right away. First, our pick up was not there (ok, so this maybe wasnt their fault as our bus was late, but they didnt really say anything about our pick-up not being there). Next we were shown to a... More

This hostal was a charming Spanish Colonial example, with lovely, peaceful courtyards and rooms. We stayed here with our two teenage children in a room with 4 beds and an old kitchen fireplace decorated with antiques. The location was convenient to the square and convent, and safe for the kids to walk. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. In our... More
