The Hotel El Dorado is nicely located three blocks away from the cathedral. All Restaurants are within walking distance and even if it is raining the taxi is really inexpensive. You can probably find less expensive places to stay in Cuenca, but none are as nice as the El Dorado. They have a great hot and cold buffet breakfast.
