Dingy, dirty hostel, which had been officially closed by the authorities, we had to go through the back door to get in. Dorms were pretty grim as were the bathrooms. The area is pretty sketchy too, lots of crack heads hanging about outside. I would stay at the Secret Garden in the old town.

Spent 2 nights at Blue House. Pluses: Super friendly and helpful staff. Very clean rooms and communal spaces. Excellent location if you want to be in the midst of the Mariscal. This is a party hostel. Do not stay if you require a good night sleep or any sleep at all. The staff play VERY loud music all day and on into the night until about 4am.
