We travelled through South America for 4 months, mostly following the budget recommendations of the Lonely Planet. We were not impressed with the shared bath room we had reserved in Valparaiso, so we left and right around the corner found Casa Latina. It was $10 more than our "budget" hostel - but that made a world of difference.
The owners are achitects and their influence is evident in the environment that beautifully blends old structure with new aesthetic. The attention to detail of this serene place is evident: the small space feels like a taste of home with the best beds (fluffy down pillows and comforters), bed reading lights (if you have been travelling in hostel doubles, you will appreciate this) and a superb breakfast. In addition, the staff is beyond generous and kind...making the whole experience feel as though you are staying with old friends! Location is also ideal for exploring Valparaiso and a computer with internet is also available.
