What we liked best on this hotel/hostel was the view. It overlooks the entire harbor and nearly the entire city. Just around the corner is the funicular Artilleria. Here one should necessarily be driven up times. It also has a restaurant with fantastic food, friendly english-speaking service and incredible views in the vicinity - Casa Cuatro Vientos. One does not... More

I really liked this place. The hostel (though B&B may be a better term) is a big traditional Valparaiso house near the top of one of the city's many hills. (There is a great view of the whole sweep of the bay just yards away from the front door.) I stayed in two different rooms, one large and one small;... More

This is a great place. The owner, Catalina, was welcoming, warm and efficient with great advice and help. Our room, one of only a few, was bright and clean, the kitchen available to use anytime, the breakfast was beautiful and ample and the 2 computers have good internet as well as wifi. The whole place is comfortable and welcoming. And... More

We stayed at Hostal Portobello for the 2 nights in October. The owners could not be more friendly or helpful, and we liked the location a little outside (but easy to get to) the action of the main tourist cerros. Our room on the ground floor was clean and nicely decorated and the bed was really comfortable. Breakfast was also... More

Tough one this as the young couple who run the hostel are probably the nicest and most helpful people we have met in our travels around South America. Continuing on the positives, breakfast is very good with fresh crusty bread, good real ham and cheese, fruit salad, carrot cake, fresh juice and tea/instant coffee. Wifi is fast and there are... My husband and I spent a few nights here during a visit to Chile and Argentina in December 2008. We really loved this place. Our host was so kind. He offered us tea as soon as we arrived and sat down with us and provided us with maps and a few suggested walking tour brochures - which we took and... More

i stayed in the suite - big room with two large windows and an ensuite bathroom - for 3 nights. the room was basic but the bed was big and comfy and clean. the bathroom could use a little updating but there was always hot water. the breakfast was good - toast, meat, cheese, coffee or tea and was served... Our experience at Hostal Portobello was excellent. The owners were incredibly friendly and willing to help; they offered us their metro card to use for the rail to Vina del Mar, they gave recommendations on anything we asked about, and they even called and made a reservation for us at a winery. Our private room was large, charming, clean, and... More
