This place is at the top of the Andes, on the road to Argentina at the pass just before the border. It sits on an incredibly beautiful spot right on the lake with the ski lifts right outside the door. The pool also has the same views across the lake, making this one of the most amazing poolside views anywhere.... More

What a fantastic experience. The hotel is nice, like a club, with happy employees who clearly enjoy working there and like helping you out. I felt like part of the family in a couple of days. Ski instructors are world class and come from all over the world. Hotel is all included (except drinks) and you eat in a common... More

The resort itself is well set up however the attitude towards adults travelling without children is appalling. The entire month of July is family 'week' however this is not advertised or advised when booking in advance. So watch out and get ready for an experience! Although the hotel is happy to accept you as a full paying guest, they will... More

Skiing in South America: Portillo has one great part about it: community. It does really feel like cruise ship/ski lodge. I went with my sister and we had a blast. NOTE: we were both 20 somethings and for us it was very expensive, I lived in Chile for a year and wanted to ski in the Andes, I heard that... More

Its not skiing in the northern hemisphere, it's entirely different. No lift lines, but the lifts to the good runs are not a time to rest because you have to pay attention and hold on. The snow is great and the people all get to know each other and were fun. It's an amazing experience to be at the hotel... More

I have been like 10 times to Portillo. So... I have been through many different conditions. I love the place. It is now expensive in dollar terms due to the weak US dollar for the best rooms. However... el Inca Lodge (really a hostel) costs USD 100 per night all included (except alcoholic drinks). This is just basic basic lodging.... More

Transportation to the resort: Getting to Portillo seems to vary by people. This is our 2nd time to Chile and like the last time we flew into Santiago and spent a night in Santiago to recoup from our flight. Next day we took the ski total bus to the resorts. We do this because flight from Atlanta doesn't land until... More

dining room service, spotty at best. the ski guys are great the resort itself is missing the boat on several areas,(except the cruise ship feel) and they do try and" nickel and dime" you for things(for instance bacon at breakfast costs extra?? etc. etc. ) $ 3000 u.s a piece for the week should cover ALL the food!!! but all... We spent the week of Aug 6th in Portillo. First off I have to say, the skiing was really fun. The Sling Shot lift up Roca Jack is something you need to do at least once in a lifetime. We arrived a day late due to a storm, but that meant great fresh snow...and we had a blast. Fresh tracks... More

Stayed in the main lodge at Portillo Hotel and ski resort, 28 July-6 Aug 2011. The resort was outstanding. We skied approximately 50% of our time off-piste using the resorts heli-skiing on one of the days. Other off-piste skiing was ski mountaineering. Some of the highlights of the outstanding service: The staff was without exception very attentive and friendly. The... More
