The Santa Grand Hotel Lai Chun Yuen in Chinatown was a great find. This hotel has loads of character, being an old Chinese opera theatre. Photos on trip advisor are very accurate. Rooms are small but modern and clean. Staff are fantastic. Free wi fi. Location was excellent, lots of hawker type stalls right out the front of the hotel... More

Location just middle of the Chinatown and next to a Hindu Temple. Most rooms are without window which is actually good so then you won’t hear the street food stalls… Good a/c, hot water; value for a money in Singapore. Free and fast wifi.

I stayed one night at the hotel when I stopped over in Singapore. It is right in the heart of China Town, the MRT is just around the corner. I was pleasantly surprised when i entered the hotel. Red is definitely the dominant colour, very oriental. The staff is very helpful and friendly. I arrived early and the bellman helped... More

The location was great and convenient but the room walls are too thin. We could hear every word from the neighbour next door. Didn't help that it was rather noisy right outside the window. Barely could sleep. If you're looking to get sleep, maybe not this particular place. Overall, very friendly and helpful staff.

Found this hotel on Agoda.com and booked it without knowing what we were really getting. Price was about $100US/night. Booked a room with balcony. This is important as some rooms do not have windows! Hotel is in former opera house. Very cool decor (lots of red velvet). Staff were friendly. Luggage storage if you arrive early/or have a late departure.... More

Santa Grand Hotel - Lai Chun Yuen March 2012 - Middle of Chinatown with all that good kitchie souvenir stuff close by. Good street foodmarket at night outside the hotel. MRT Chinatown station is 50 metres away. During the day, local bakeries and restaurants provide meals and drinks. Stayed twice at this hotel on 12 hour flight stopovers. The rooms... More

The hotel was clean and extremely well located. It is very convenient to the Chinatown MRT station and many shops/restaurants. The hotel is located in an old Chinese opera house and its decor reflects its history (lots and lots of red).  The entrances to the hotel are on Smith Street and on Temple. There's another Santa Grand (Chinatown) on the... More

Prepare for windowless, small, dimly lit cubicle, and you will be able to sleep, bath, surf free internet and watch TV. Location wise is excellent, in artificial Chinatown a la Singapore, just off from the market strip. The building is converted from a Chinese opera, so expect to see dark atrium lobby with oriental theme, like red blood color and... More

The hotel is a recently renovated "boutique" hotel right in the middle of Chinatown and only a few hundred metres from a metro station. In a former life, the hotel was an opera house and the central atrium (with no natural light) therefore dictates the design of the rooms. Wrap-around corridors limit the space available so that the rooms are... More
