The Gran Mahakam hotel is rated 41/2 stars. It is the only hotel in Jakarta with European ambiance, lovely in every detail, smaller than the new, huge 5 star places and more intimate. The Blok-M area in the immediate vicinity of the hotel is quite congested with everything from nicer restaurants to little street vendors. Hotel looks pleasant and european from the outside. Inside all marble, beautiful flower arrangements, small balconies etc etc. Staff very helpful. Very disappointing ! Tiny rooms, average service, cleanliness to be improved... The building looks very nice from the outside, but once you're inside it's a whole different story : old school decor, cheap equipment, little facilities. more
