We paid at a very good price as there was a flash deal at Agoda. For location: There's a bus stop within walking distance that takes you to Temple of heaven, forbidden city, Beijing Zoo, Wangfujing. It is actually very convenient. Not advisable to walk to Forbidden city since the entrance now is only at the Front door, which takes... More

It was ok...The rooms were very clean and the staf was mostly helpful. However, I was given a room that shared a wall with the housekeeping office/ staff room. All night I would hear the staff shouting, laughing, banging and talking. I called several times to ask them to be quiet. They were very rude and disrespectful. The room was... More

Shatan Hotel is ideally located, at a walking distance of the Coal Hill Park (2 Min), Beihai Park (10 Min), the North exit of the Forbidden Palace (10 Min), a huton neighbourhood (3 Min) and bus line 5 (10 Min) which will carry you southwards to Tian'men and northwards to the Bell and Drum Towers. You can also walk from... More

We recently stayed (4/2-4/8) at the Sha Tan Hotel for a week. It is a good place for a visit to Beijing, especially if you want to stay in the city near major sites. It is a Chinese-style hotel located on a hutong. If you need Hilton or Hyatt to be comfortable, they have those chains downtown. This would be... More

I live in China and come to Beijing often. We stayed here end of March 2012 for 5 nights. This is a three star hotel in a fantastic location. Expect good value for money but not luxury. The rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable, they have a safe, small flatscreen TV (no bbc, cnn etc. just local channels), good... More

This affordable hotel was decent. I came with my husband for 3 nights. The hotel is located in a great area, in the middle of everything. The receptionist at the desk was able to speak English and helped us write down places to show the Taxi driver. They were also knowledgeable on what bus to take to the destination. Please... More

Be aware of the money you get back at the reception, we got a faked 100 yuan bill and did not realize it in time. Or better dont go there at all.

This is a charming and affordable hotel located in the heart of downtown Beijing. The fruit vendors, meat markets, nail salons and restaurants on this street provide an authentic experience, and yet it is still only a 25 minute walk from Tienanmen Square, and just a 5 minute walk from the northern end of the Forbidden City. The staff are... More

General: We spent nine (9) night at the Shatan hotel and were _very_ satisfied, definitely would go there again. It's a bargain! Great location near the Forbidden City, nice and clean rooms, confy beds (!), and nice staff. It's a western-style hotel in a lively chinese-style block. Even late at night, the surroundings felt very safe. But if you're into... More

I arrived to the hotel in the wee hours of the morning. The staff were there to help me get into my room quickly (which was hugely appreciated after 25 hours of airports and flying). I was always greeted by staff with a happy hello and they even helped me grab a taxi on a very busy morning. It has... More
