We just spent three nights at the Red Capital Residence and it was a wonderful experience. The hotel is not a five star luxury property, but that is not why you stay here. It feels like olden day China, yet you are only walking distance from the new shops, restaurants and subway. We had a few issues with a cold... More

This hotel, in an old courtyard residence that once belonged to Mao's minister of defense, is for those who want some adventure in their travel experience. The setting is mostly original and authentic, not for those who want to feel like they could be anywhere in the world in a cookie cutter luxury hotel that insulates you from the local... More

The Red Capital gave us a taste of the 'old china'. It was very atmospheric and passing through the large red doors you felt a sense of travelling into the past. We were staying there during the 60th celebrations of the PRC. We had an amazing time and the Red Capital added to our experience. It is NOT a luxury... More

The first two nights, we are staying in Chinese Traditional Boutique hotel, the Red Capital Residence. It is very impressive since we walk into the main gate thru inside where is the Chinese style one floor house, 5 bed room surroundings in square. quiet, pieceful cover with one big tree. All rooms are special decoration with Chinese Boutique furnitures. We... More

During our honey moon for which we traveled from Moscow to Beijing on the train, we chose this hotel to finish the journey. We have been very happy with our stay there. The place is beautiful, charming and full of historical furniture / objects. The staff was very nice, helpful and speaking a very good English. The room was very... More

We were in Beijing for recent weekend trip, and decided to stay here because we had read good reviews and wanted an "atmospheric" place. We had the West Concubine Suite. Unfortunately, we found many problems with the place: room is poorly lit, furnishings are old and coming apart (eg curtains coming off the hook, canopy on the bed looked like... More

I stayed at the Red Capital Residence twice over the course of July 2008 in Beijing. My first visit to the boutique hotel was incredible. I was put up in Chairman Mao Suite and I just loved the environs of the place. The location, though hard to find, really puts you in the heart of historic Beijing. The decor is... More

We spent six nights at the red capital residence during the olympics. Its not a hotel without warts, but for someone looking for something very different from an international hotel I think it rocks. To be honest I generally stay in the four seasons when I go on holiday and the red capital is a far cry from the perfect... More

This place astounded me! This is certainly not the Holiday Inn. I've stayed in another "authentic" courtyard hotel but this was a different level of "authentic" altogether. We had one of the Concubine rooms - it was so dimly lit I could barely make out the contents of my suitcase, the bed was hard and the furnishings dark and heavy... More
