3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2013 NEW

First, the location is phenomenal. Directly down the road from the Tienanmen Square and one side of the building looks out toward the Forbidden City. However, the hotel needs a renovation. The carpeting in my room was lumpy and was not attached to the floor. It also was not cut to the correct size and there were seams everywhere. Made... More

I had an excellent and very relaxing stay at the Grand Hotel. Our huge room with beautifully carved furniture overlooked the Forbidden City. The service was excellent, as should be expected from a 5 star hotel. We also ate at 3 of the restaurants on site and all of the food was excellent. Wine selection was decent for being in... More

For a five star hotel, this is quite affordable. Rooms are very spacious. Ask for a view overlooking the Forbidden Palace. Location is excellent with subway, National Museum, Tiananmen Square, and Forbidden Palace all within walking distance. Drawbacks- many people still smoke in Beijing so make sure to ask to change your room if your's smells like smoke.

never expected this sort of luxury in China. Everything was 5 star. Close to everything. Ithought it was modern contrary to some of the other reviews. Shops were frightfully expensive. Food was included with my room so I have no idea whther it was more expensive than others.

This old fashioned 5 star hotel can only be recommended to anyone who wants to relax in the centre of Beijing. Many atractions are in walking distance, the subway is really close as well as a high priced shopping amll with a good food court thiugh, the walking street which is nice, a good selection of all kind of stores,... I didn't actually stay at this hotel but my husband and I were having trouble getting a taxi from the Forbidden City that knew the apartment complex that we were trying to go to. We went into the lobby to ask the concierge if they could help us with translation. The lady said that we would have to go out... More

You can't get a better location to stay in Beijing, as far as being close to Tiananmen Square, or the Forbidden City. The hotel itself is well maintained, and has large rooms. The buffet restaurant was very expensive, we did not eat at it. We also hired a taxi for 8 hours through the hotel with no problems, for a... More

2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2012

The Grand Hotel, Beijing was the first stop in an "upmarket" and long-established tour option of a very reputable company from Australia. This turned out to be a "thrifty" choice that fell far short of the advertised standard. Although staff were friendly and check-in was efficient, there was a language barrier which prevented a clear understanding of even the simple... More
