My friend and I visited Myanmar because of a course we took in university. While we went there with an open mind, we were extremely pleased to see that the hotel that we have booked is more than what we expected. Though we wondered about the designer's choice of toilet furnishings, the aircon was alright, except on the first day,... More

A great hotel - centrally located near Sakura Tower - opposite Traders Hotel and close to Yangon Railway Station. Air Conditioned with 24 hour power and free Wi Fi. Clean rooms and friendly staff. Free bottled water and good breakfast. Toilet with no door and only beaded curtin, may deter some travellers. As an independant solo traveller, I had no... More

I stayed here as part of a privately organised tour. The location in the centre of town was great for getting out and about easily. The facilities were OK. Both rooms I stayed in were clean, though a bit tired looking. There is no door between the bathroom facilities and the bedroom, instead it relies on a curtain, wardrobe or... More

Good mid-range option in downtown Yangon. No hassles checking-in, although the hotel seemed swamped with package tourists, backpackers, and business people. Minimalist room was comfortable, modern, and clean. Large, flat-screen TV with international channels. Small bathroom had no door for modest travellers. Limited electrical plugs for gadgets. Free wifi was the best connection I experienced in Myanmar. The 2 bottles... More

I stayed here on arrival for 2 nights in late April 2012 (booked through Agoda). Located opposite the Trader's Hotel, East Hotel appears to be quite modern and I presume that it was built quite recently. The beds, TV and bathroom facilities appear quite modern. Like many other reviews on here, some might find the bathroom a bit disconcerting, as... More

We used this hotel last year when it first opened It was nice different to the "norm" you would get in Yangon What we did notice about the rooms this time was how they had "weathered" After only one year they were looking quite tatty! I think that this place was opened in a rush, and not thought out enough Looked... More

The good: comfy bed, flat screen TV, great location, price, wi-fi (although intermittent, and friendly staff. The not so good: no door to toilet, two electrical plugs that didn't work (one directly under the coffee maker), a staff telephone outside my door that frequently rang, congregating housekeeping staff talking and laughing loudly, not so clean floor and base of walls,... In general: This hotel seems very popular with western tourists, I guess that must be because it’s one of the very few in Yangon (or Burma in general) which offers booking with credit cards over the internet, through popular booking websites. I think all of the guests that we saw were foreign. I wouldn’t call it boutique, it has got... More

The boutiquification of Burma has begun! The East Hotel is a tall, thin tower in an excellent location a couple of hundred yards from Bogyoke Aung San market in one direction and Sule Pagoda in the other. Could actually be the best located hotel in Yangon. The rooms are comfortable and the lack of windows really is not a problem.... More

First the positives - and there are lots & lots of them even though running a western hotel in Burma today isn't easy Great location - central, walking distance to Sule Pagoda & central market + money changers, and easy to get a cab. Spotlessly clean, very comfortable beds & good showers. Very professional management - couldn't have been more... More
