Reading other review, I agree, the Grand is "as good as you can expect" in Kinshasa. Terribly expensive, mediocre at best, but it's safe, relatively clean, and what are you going to do. None of us that regularly visit Kinshasa are here on holiday!! more

I spent 6 month in total in this hotel by several occasions. Even the staff is acting as in top luxury hotel, the services are just awful. Specially the staff on front desk including the front desk manager is totally incompetent. The gave me wrong invoice several times, so if you're in the rush, be ready to spent at least... more

I have stayed in Grand Hotel Kinshasa in several occasions in the past few years. Kinshasa is not the most beautiful capital city in Africa and this is understood that this is difficult to run any businesses smoothly in this economical and social environment, but this is no excuse in my view for the Grand Hotel to over charge so... more

I read previous reviews on this hotel before travelling and so was pleasantly surprised. If you speak French to the reception staff you will have no problem, and some of the waiting staff in the breakfast cafe made good efforts to communicate in English. The omelette maker was particularly helpful! The hotel is in the process of refurbishment so a... more

I was booked in this Hotel from January 19th till January 30th. Two weeks! The Hotel - new tower (built in 1985) has not seen any paint since then, it looks run down and old. They are however busy upgrading the old part and the new building does look impressive and up to world standards. My stay there was bad,... more

...Where nothing works well, and some things don't work at all. In that context, this was a good stay. There were no power failures, bad smells, malfunctioning facilities or rude staff. The bed was comfortable, the room was spacious and it had a beautiful river view. But the breakfast buffet had a highly unconventional selection of tasteless dishes (spring rolls?... more

At $285 a night for bed and breakfast I found my bill rapidly approaching $1000 for three nights (with a $40 evening meal each day). To be fair, compared to what the rest of Kinshasa looks like, this is a 'grand' hotel, probably a 3-star on an EU or USA scale. Room was spacious, clean and staff generally friendly and... more

Probably a 3 star by developed world standards but a 5 star + for Central Africa. Good variety of restaurants. Bar scene is entertaining. Pool is decent. Would recommend for anybody looking for a safe base in Kinshasa with some modicum of comfort. more

As I could read in former reactions on the stayings of other guests at the Grand Hotel, I think the most of the negative reactions where of that nature that the visitors blame the staff not to speak the english language. That's true, I have been there in march 2007. But dear visitors, staff people are "poor" Congolese employers, often... more
