and amazing country.A while back I was lucky enough to stay at the Damascus at the start and finish of my trip and have to say that Raymond and his friends could not have been kinder, funnier or more informative (even if the dancing was a tad dodgy and I did'nt get my whirling dervish !! ) Syria was a... I still have very fond memories of the Damascus hostel, more than a year after visiting (in December 2010-January 2011). We had the tower room and spent many happy hours playing with the cats (little Falafel must have grown up now!) and talking with the hostel staff, who were extremely helpful and friendly and gave us some great travel advice.... Extremly helpful people are the best asset for this hostel. Still remember their kindness after two years. They also organize trips all across Syria. Good base to explore the country or the region.

Fantastic, kitche and charming hostel. Located in a small lane right but right in the thick of it, the Damscus hostel is the place to stay in Damascus. The souq and mosque are right on the door stop but be sure to go out one day without a map and loose yourself in the small laneways and passageways you will... More

Damascus hostel is a lovely place to spend your days in Damascus. The accommodation is very minimal and simple, nothing glamorous or fancy but the atmosphere and the people make it an amazing place to stay. The owner and the staff are always there to help and assist you in anything you may need. If you are not after a... More

Despite Damascus and the whole Syria being still unspoiled by tourist boom and really good prices for food, drinks, excursions, they still lack affordable and quality accommodation. The Damascus Hostel stands out of the crowd of expensive hotels in Damascus. The hostel is very affordable offering clean rooms, most with TVs and private baths. There are a lot of backpackers... I stayed at this hostel for one night with my brother on July 6, 2011 when political unrest in Syria was beginning to intensify. At first, we found a welcoming home at the hostel, managed in the owner's absence by a kind Syrian family. We were constantly offered tea, nargileh, food and overall spent a wonderful two days in Damascus.... More

Dear Costa and brother The staff at hostel are fully capable of running the hostel in my absence for many months. The family that you refered to are the most honest people i have known .The family are Jaklin, her brother Johny, his son Noel and daughter Sandy. It is cruel to accuse these people of stealing .The other person at hostel Em... I contacted Raymond (the owner) a day before I left Beirut for Damascus and was told that although the hostel was full, he could find me room on their rooftop deck or at a home within the old city. I opted for a room in the old city and it was magnificent (old, comfy, clean, quiet). The hostel itself was... More

A friend and I stayed in the hostel twice during a two week period and I found it to be a very comfortable and safe experience where we met fellow travelers who shared information and experiences that assisted with our travels. Staff were immensely helpful in planning our visits to Aleppo, Hama, and Palmyra, organizing drivers whom I rate 100%.... More

Firstly, I would like to apologise to Raymond that this review has taken so long for me to write! I travelled to Damascus in May 2010, having studied Arabic. However, my Arabic was poor and I felt that travelling to an Arab country and studying there would be the best way to improve my Arabic quickly. Many of my friends... More
