We spent two nights in the guest house and would have left if we were not to flight back to Europe. (We followed the Lonely Planet guide). We have to concess that the rooms are aerated and clean, quiet. The young lady taking care of everything is doing her best to satisfy you and make you feel at ease. But... More

We needed somewhere to stay for our first night in Colombo and chose this place, as we were on a budget. We were charged 3500 rupees plus 15% service charge. It is impossible to find, and none of the locals or rickshaw drivers knew where it was. It is located in postcode Colombo 7, faraway from the centre of Colombo,... More

Set in the heart of the Diplomatic community this Guest House is well located and an attractive place to stay. Like all the places we stayed in that price range the maintenance of the rooms and bathroom was poor. Broken furniture on the terrace etc. We were well welcomed and for a change were asked to register and to pay... More

I was going to refute the previous reviews and say that Ranjit was actually quite friendly and his guest house reasonably comfortable (although very hot if you don't want to pay the extortionate extra amount for a/c), but then he charged us 100 rupees to make an approximately 5 second phone call to book a taxi. I know it's not... More

The description of Ranjits Ambalama on Hostelworld or Lonely Planet is not quite accurate. There are no shops and "places of interest" nearby. In fact, R.A. is located in Colombo´s embassy district where you find only mansions, colleges, sports courts, police stations and a military base. The area is also guarded day and night by the police and armed military.... More

We had the worst stay we have ever had. The owner is completely unreasonable. It is hard to talk to him. He is rude and dismissive. At one point he walked away while I was talking and closed the gate on my face. Every request we made was either a huge issue, or seemed to cost more money (like use... More

Place is quite, the rooms are spacey and clean. However, the rooms are not tidied up. Basic furniture without any decoration. Quite far away from downtown. Wireless internet against payment. The place could be very nice with another owner/manager aka more hospitality. Don't let yourself charm by Ranjit's polite e-mails. When you first arrive, your money is the only thing... More

It is regretable that Mr.Sebastian has commented on the distance from downtown which I have no control over but he did when he booked. It is very clearly stated that wireless connection is available on payment of Rs.600/- for use through the entire stay and use on the return journey as well. He has stated that the hotel is clean... Running a hotel or bed and breakfast is a great deal of work and very long hours. We know because we owned and operated a bed and breakfast. Cleanliness is the top priority for the guests. If the owner feels grumpy etc. he should change and by all means always be pleasant to the errant customer. He is the one... More

I don't care how late it is, and you don't have accommodations... Sleep in the airport. Sleep in the street... do not stay here. The owner is incredibly rude, only concerned about money, and not interested in helping you as his guest in anyway. Check out time is at 10:00am, and he will not take care of your things if... More
