I know it's hard to rate this hotel. Mongalia is still at an early developing stage. This hotel is very old Soveit Union style hotel. I bet the lift was installed in its latest renovation. Barely held 5 people. Room is clean, spacious and too simple. It can hardly compare with a standard 2 star hotel in China. Don't expect... more

I have stayed in the UB hotel numerous times on business. It is definitely a bit faded, not altogether modern, and sometimes struggle to get what you need done - but that is a feature of Ulaanbaatar, not the fault of the hotel. Great location (right by Sukhbatar Square, close to shops and restaurants), and rooms are fantastic - although... more

I've stayed at the UB Hotel before and was not impressed, but had to stay here again because it was our conference venue. It is an old Soviet style hotel with all the plumbing problems usually associated with those (i.e. showers are either scalding hot or freezing cold - you can never seem to get anything in between) and Soviet-era... more

The Ulaanbaatar Hotel is certainly the grandest of all the hotels in UB. The suite is definitely worth the few extra dollars. I got it $180 per night and it was certainly a steal! It consisted of 3 standard rooms. 2 large screen LCD's one 31 inch in the bedroom and one 42 inch in the sitting room with most... more

I stayed twice in this hotel, once when I arrived in Mongolia, and a second time just before leaving. I picked it because I wanted a haven of comfort and authenticity before exploring the country, but I must admit it was a bit of a disappointment. My friend had arrived one night before me in UB, and he was given... more

I stayed at the UB Hotel numerous times in the 90s, and returned in April for a few nights. Not much had changed! An important thing to know about the UB is that the single rooms are really just that - a single bed, with a tv, bathroom and small desk. If you are staying for anything longer than one... more

The UB hotel touts itself as a five-star hotel. Other travelers make the point that the place doesn't measure up to western standards of such a grade--it doesn't....but within a country that is still struggling to develop fundamental urban infrastructure, it does a valiant job. The reception staff were pleasant, uniformed doormen were always there to greet us and promptly... more

Stayed at this property for three nights in October. Absolutely no wow factor. Have to concur with many posters on this forum with regards to hot water (always scalding), location, and extremely small rooms for a "5" star hotel. Very obvious in architecture that this was a former Soviet hotel. As far as service, there was little interaction with any... more

Iwasn't able to book using the hotel's own webste, so I had to contact a local travel agent in UB. Overall, I think tat this property is trying hard to boost its image/customer service. I arrived late at night and was welcomed by both a uniformed bellhop and a nice front desk staffperson. Standard single rooms are small, but contain... more

Everybody should have been in a former soviet hotel... The boring face of the building, the long dark corridors, etc. We stayed here for two separate nights (before/after visiting a yurt camp in Terelj National Park...great experience!). The location is great...despite the burnt out building next to the hotel. The main square can be reached in 5min. Don't take the... more
