This is a popular older hotel with many return travelers, especially from Europe and the United. Pros: 1. The popular hotel restaurant has a health conscious menu. 2. Clean, reasonalbly priced upgraded rooms. 3. Near registration offices for Muay Thai boxing school and a Thai culinary academy. Cons: 1. No heater in the rooms. 2. The taxi drivers need to... More

This mid budget property has been a mainstay of my family since my brother discovered it back in '89. The location is perfect, right in front of the gate, and abuts the old brick wall surrounding the old city. Plenty of shopping and restaurants surround the place, and the price is right. I highly recommend this no frills hotel for... More

Although I like to stay in Hotels with a pool, the Montri is a great play inside the moat of Chiang Mai giving access to all city attractions, with clean rooms and a freshly renovated look and reasonably priced it makes the ideal place to stay in Chiang Mai

I stopped in Ching Mai on the way to Mae Hong. A friendly lady I met on the flight from Bangkok recommended it to me specially on the weekend as there is a night market around the corner which is great. Very good staff, every thing is new and clean, get a room to the back and avoid street facing... More

Slightly pricier than comparable hotels in the moat, but the location can't be beat. It overlooks the TaePae gate / night market, as well as the Sunday market. You're within walking distance of a large chunk of touristy Chiang Mai. The hotel itself is comfortable enough, with free wifi, amenities, a flatscreen TV, hot water, and A/C. It's neat, well... Have been staying at the Montri on and off for about a decade, always took my family and friends there. Sadly after my last visit I wouldn't say there if you payed me. New management are penny pinching to the extreme. The best breakfast in Chiang Mai is now a joke, free transfers to the bus station etc have been... More

I got a room at the Montri for 2,400 baht for three nights as a special low-season promotion. You get what you pay for in life and there are certainly far better hotels in Chiang Mai than the Montri, but at 800 baht a night, it still represents very good value for money. I stayed here four years ago and... More

I've stayed at the Montri many times and it was OK. The hotel was remodeled. Now the rate is double what it used to be, yet the rooms are no bigger than before. The location is great, but the restaurant, called the Triple N, is terrible. I ordered a sandwich and waited 15 minutes for it to arrive. Others in... More

This was my second stay at the Montri, and the rooms are currently being upgraded. It is clean, safe, and reasonably priced (the room rate includes breakfast). The Montri is directly across from the Thapae Gate in the old city and has a number of restaurants, tour agencies, and attractions (e.g. Night Market, Sunday Market, Wat chedi Luang) nearby. I...
