I stayed 8 days here while in Thamel, and it was a really cool experience. I met some awesome ppl while at potala. Hotel Potala is located right in the city, so if your looking for a quiet place, this probably wont be the right choice. The music is on till 11pm, there's a massive bar next door, and the... More

Incredible location if you want to be right in the heart of Thamel. Thamel is the perfect place for backpackers in Kathmandu as it has everything we need (and plenty we could do without). However, with this central location comes the major downside - the noise! The hotel is literally surrounded by bars and niteclubs, with loud latin music coming... More

Hotel Potala I found as a real "value for money". Very friendly and HELPFUL staff, reasonable quality of rooms { comparing with Nepal standart :-) } In case I would come to Kathmandu in the future, I will definitely stay here again.

During my three months in Nepal, I spent almost every weekend in Hotel Potala in Thamel, Kathmandu. I can certainly recommend the place. The staff is very friendly and very helpful and willing to give benefits to loyal costumers. The rooms are nice and clean and the restaurant is affordable and good. A very pleasant experience, I would recommend it.

I stayed in Potala Hotel a few days before leaving for trekking and let a few stuff there during the trek. When I came back I had a very warm welcome from all the staff. The restaurant with a nice terrace and the roof top are really great to chill out after a long day wandering Kathmandu streets. The location... More

I stayed here for three nights in January. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The restaurant was great too. A tall man at the front desk, whose name I cannot remember, was particularly helpful. For a central Kathmandu stay, I would certainly recommend.

here are the 3 pros of this joint: smack dab in thamellandia. cheapish. friendly staff. however, the cons: just a bit on the seedy side. more than a bit run down. and NOISY as hell. every night you will hear through your window a bad cover band arrhythmically abusing some guns and roses opus and through the walls you will...
