If you need 600 count sheets and 4 Seasons fluffy towels to be comfortable, stop now. You probably shouldn't even be traveling to these destinations. This property is 30 km down a dirt road. Think about it. Ignore all negative comments, they are no longer deserved. We booked with a bit of trepidation. We were more than pleasantly surprised. Not... More

Great location in the middle of Akagera National Park. We did not have reservations, but being slow season we had no problem getting rooms. With 7 in our group we got a family room (2 adjoining rooms) for $120 and a double room for $100. Rooms were pretty much 3 star, but nice enough. Only soap was furnished so bring... More

A very upsetting start when the Game Park reception charged us US$30 per person per day even on the days we did not leave the Hotel grounds. This is a new charge, even our guide who is a regular visitor, did not know! He was there on 31st of Dec & actually does work for them, but It was a complete... More

We'd read so much (negative) about the lodge, that we were a bit worried, but as this is really the only option to stay in the park, we gave it a try. We were pleasantly surprised. True, the place really needs refurbishing, in particular the bathrooms, and it was eerily empty (only ten people staying), but it was midweek and... More

After much online research, we booked a standard room at Akagera Game Lodge as it appeared to be the only viable option if visiting the national park. At $100/night including breakfast we felt this was pretty poor value, but wasn't quite as bad as we were expecting. The lodge is certainly impressive enough with the restaurant/bar having some great views... More

This place is like a banged-up holiday inn but in a beautiful location, overlooking the lakes across to Tanzania. Half of the building looks like an abandoned projects, complete with graffiti, doors without doorknobs, etc. and the whole place has a creepy, cobwebbed atmosphere. Service was bizarre and not very welcoming, except for one nice guy who seemed to do... More

We were on a budget so only stayed one night but it was wonderful. We arrived early one day and left late the next day. The staff were very freindly and helpful. Attentive without being overwhelming. They taught us to play Igisura when we expressed an interest in the game. The room was well decorated, very clean and spacious. The... More

Service standards are generally low in Rwanda, so imagine what service would be like at a government-managed hotel that has a monopoly on lodging, and that's what you have at Akagera Game Lodge. It's the only lodging option in Akagera unless you want to camp. I've been there twice now, most recently with my two young children (1 and 4)... More

We booked into this Lodge as the only one in the National Park. They could do with some competition to sharpen them up. The premises are fine and it is an impressive building but Management is lacking in expertise. The place seems to be run for the staff's benefit. The place is clean and roomy and worked inspite of itself.... More

The setting of the lodge is spectacular, it's perched at the top of a hill and overlooks Lake Ihema and across to the Tanzania hills. Half of the facilities are under renovation, so we had to stay in the older section. I stayed in room with two twin beds, that were fine though kinda lumpy, but the balcony opened up... More
