I have taken my family to Malealea twice, and have also brought my sister's family. Go here for the scenery, the remote feel, the pony-trekking, the hiking and swimming under water falls. The lodge is rustic but rooms are clean and beds are comfortable. The dining hall food is decent and filling. Or there is a communal kitchen you can... More

My wife and I went to Malealea 16 years ago after asking a PCV what was the best place to stay in Lesotho. After getting some vague but accurate directions we set off in our MBZ130 as the sun was setting. This was followed by a hair-raising, exhaust pipe fracturing, adrenaline producing trip at night from Maseru to Malealea over the... Malealea is a lovely option if you are looking to get away from Maseru for a few days. Less than two hours away, it has clean but basic accommodation, food, (good but expensive for what is provided), a lovely little cafe for those who require coffee, and options for a few day and half-day treks. The pony trek is worth... More

I am a Peace Corps Volunteer, so I have been living in Lesotho for almost a year. I've seen several examples of accomodation in Lesotho and Malealea was a great experience and hopefully can lead the way toward developing eco-tourism in Lesotho. My husband and I really appreciated the local staff and the extent to which we were made to... More

We visited Malealea with my husband and 3-year old son in December. We arrived in a small car, no need for a 4x4. The mix of self-catering with a community dining room is excellent for families with children. The views are breathtaking and my son is still humming the choir songs he learnt in Malealea. We did a 4 hour... More

I stayed in one of the private rondavels (round huts) which was simple and rustic, but good value. The lodge is colourful, with a variety of accommodation options, a bar and a simple coffee shop. I found the lady in charge and the guide who took me on the pony trek to be incredibly friendly, contrary to some of the... More

We visited this lodge with our family and 12 university students. It was amazing! The staff were friendly and attentive, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and the views were stunning. The community dining room was an unexpected delight -- great food and the opportunity to meet other guests from around the globe. Our entire group went pony trekking --... More

A tranquil place located in the beautiful Malealea valley surrounded by a village so get to interact with the locals when outside the lodge. Generator for electricity from 5 to 10pm. Dress warmly as the weather can change all of a sudden in the valley. Great hikes and local guides offered by the lodge. We walked to the waterfall and... More

I had an interesting time at Malealea. I stayed in a Sotho round hut which was very comfortable and clean. Although I believe it was high season (January), it was fairly empty, so I was a bit disappointed at the lack of attention given to me by the staff. I believe they are South African ex-pats who were nice enough... More

I’ve never written a review before – lazyitis being quite a debilitating illness – but I feel compelled to state my two-peneth on Malealea Lodge. I arrived alone late one Friday evening in June, in my little Chevy Spark, highlighting that even a car with the power of a lawn mower and the suspension capabilities of an old Penny Farthing,...
