Once I got past the initial room stuff up (was supposed to be a double not a twin and there was no fan or a/c in the first rm, maybe ok in winter but not in Nov) and being extremely basic, hence the price tag, this place is actually a little oasis. The gardens are beautiful and lush and the...

Shoestrings is basically a backpackers lodge. It means that the rooms are quite basic, with shabby bathrooms and no mosquitoe nets, but nicely decorated and cosy. As any backpackers lodge, though, the atmosphere is fantastic, there is always party at the garden/bar/restaurant without having to leave the lodge. A nice place to stay, I would definitely go back there if...

This is the cheapest room with Airconditioning which we needed as we were here in October 2011. It was very hot but be warned that the room is warmer than outside. There are other more expensive option but we decided not to move because it was walking distance from town and the falls.

This place had plenty of real estate for people to spread out in. Although they were full the staff set me up with camping. While making dinner I was able to chat with some staff members making their own dinner and they were quite friendly and informative. Whether it was helping me arrange transit to my next destination or helping...

I stayed in an ensuite twin room with a friend in early July. Shoestrings is very well situated with about a 25 minute walk to the mighty Victoria Falls, and it is within 5 minutes walk of the town centre. The guy at the tour booking desk was very helpful, and the internet cafe was pretty good.
The room I...

We spent a night in the private room with en suite. The room is no frills and I mean spotty cleanliness, toilet that didnt quite work and no door to the washroom. Bar life was fun hanging with travelers and locals. We were even privy to a traditional dance with fire show. ½ hour walk to Victoria Falls and the...

This is a basic backpackers. We had a private room with en suite, the room was large but a little rundown. The toilet didn’t work properly and there is no door, the mirror was broken & the front door rattled all night. However our room was quiet, it is in a good location & the guy at the activities desk...

Stayed two nights at Shoestrings and had a good time there. Its pros and cons are:
Pros: Convenient location (5 mins walk from grocery), friendly staff, a good 'hang-out' place at night with a bar and local people (happy hour $2 for 2 local beers), has a good travel operator run by a cool guy called Carl.
Cons: Noisy at...

I would recommend this place to everyone. What a fabulous experience we had here. The place is located at a very short walk from the town centre. Its got one of the best restaurants of the town within its premises called 'The Blue Baboon'. The place has a very community feeling as most of the backpackers prefer to stay here...
