Looking for a room on graduation weekend in Athens, Georgia is no treat, so we stumbled on The Colonels. It was a good move. Located in a modest farmhouse that over the last 150 years has morphed into a very respectable mansion, it couldn't have been nicer.
"The colonels", our hosts, combine European style with southern hospitality to good effect. Both are charming and accommodating, striving for the goal of making you feel like an invited guest in their home.
The antique furnishings, mainly from Europe, blend well with the house, giving it an elegant ambience.
During our stay, the breakfast was of two distinct characters. On Saturday, when all guests were hurrying off to the campus for the morning graduation ceremonies, the provisions were continental in nature, with rolls, sweet breads, jams and jellies, coffee and tea.
