Lower Dover Field Station Hosts Bill and Madelaine, ex pats who have been based here for years have carved out a niche of the jungle. In a maybe 4 acre area they have a cheerfully painted collection of a half dozen cabanas. Orange, mango trees abound with coconuts giving shade and the occasional thump on the roof of a stray coconut... More

Lower Dover was a really nice, large property and even has some interesting unescavated ruins. The owner was very friendly, accommodating and easily contactable. Rooms and dinner were okay but I really feel the whole thing was overpriced. The lodge is also quite far from anything and can be tricky to get to from the Cayes.

We stayed at Lower Dover for three nights in April 2012, as part of a multi-stop trip around Belize. We had researched that San Ignacio was the hub for many of the inland trips and tours (we wanted to see Tikal (Guatemala), the ATM Cave (highly recommended) and Cave Tubing) but that there was not a huge variety of accommodation... Less than one mile from main road, but secluded. Clean, fun, eclectic lodging choice. Kind of like staying on a working farm in the US but offers several levels of cabins (student dorm thru semi-luxury cabin). Knowlegable, friendly, accommodating owners. Nice location for exploring anywhere in Cayo (or to base for Tikal); much more charming than San Ignacio. Ask to tour... More

The owners Madeleine and Bill are extremely friendly and go out of their way to help you, so ask them if you need information on the area. The cabanas are airy, pretty and very clean. pool table and dvd player are free to use. The food is really tasty and u're in a prime location to visit the main tourist... More

We loved this place! They have a beautiful piece of property nestled in the jungle with lodging that can fit everyyone's budget. The staff is amazingly welcoming and friendly. They have amazing hiking trails that wind through the property where you will see a vast amount of flora and fauna and newly discovered Mayan ruins! The lower Dover lodge is... More

Earlier this month I spent two weeks at the Lower Dover Field Station. Overall it was a great experience. To begin the location is perfect. Mile 59 Unitedville is located in an area which puts you in a relatively close proximity to many of Belize's attractions. There are national parks, caves, Mayan ruins (everywhere), interesting cities, and beautiful rivers (the... More

This is an amazing place packed full of every delight a jungle lodge can offer. From Mayan Ruins to Jungle rivers this place is one of the nicest places I stayed in Belize. The location is grand for cavers as it is close to one of the most magical caves in the world, ATM cave, so those wishing to take... More

So much to love about this place! The flora, the fauna, the dogs, the meals, the ruins, the rivers and the hospitality! I can't say enough about the food since I was there for two weeks conducting research. I was fed and never left hungry and my god those soups are the best I've ever had. The bunk house is... More

Lower dover is a great place: comfortable cabins, good home-cooked meals, low prices, beautiful grounds, domestic (dogs, chickens, turkeys) and wilder animals (lots of birds, and a few interesting 8-leggers!) abounding, a swimming hole, and your own mayan ruins in the back end of the property. It feels like a b&b, with guidance and conversation with Madeline and Bill and... More
