A few days a in Placencia to be by the sea, then to San Ignacio for the market, and finally to the mountains at El Guacamayo for a chance to relax in a beautiful natural setting. The accommodations were perfect, overlooking the valley. The meals, cooked over an open fire, were plentiful, fresh and delicious. We played in the river,... More

I hesitate to write a review for El Guacamayo because I think it could easily ruin what makes this place so great. We stayed in a tent, but the cabanas looked very nice. Larry, David, and Julia are truly good people who treat as though you are guests in their home rather than campers on their property. The grounds are... More

You will not find a kinder host than Larry at El Guacamayo. He picked us up from San Ignacio town and dropped us off again in the morning when we wanted to visit the ATM caves (ask for Carlos Panti, he is the best!). On our final morning, he was even kind enough to drop us off at our next... More

I was sold on the beaches of Belize. I can enjoy the forest and hikes, but they are not my cup of tea. I always thought, that I prefer water and sand. Two weeks in Belize, I consider the three days that I spent in the mountains with David and company to be the most worthwhile and best time spent... More

I went to El Guacamayo with a couple of friends last week, and based on the extremely reasonable price, expected to be "roughing it" in a little hut with hole in the ground for a bathroom. But we were blown away when we arrived and saw how beautiful not only the landscape was, but also by the accommodations! The rooms... More

El Guacamayo is a truly unique experience. Larry has set up an amazing 21st century lodge, where one is able to appreciate and enjoy the great outdoors while still having the benefit of solar-powered electricity and clean, drinkable running water. The value cannot be beaten. The price includes breakfast, lunch and dinner (assuming that you aren't off on an adventure... More

We stayed in a thatched roof cabana for 4 nights on our honeymoon. $75 US/night including dinner and breakfast was a good deal for the area. It is better than staying in San Ignacio. What we enjoyed: - good meals with fresh tortillas, conversations with Larry, crossing the river by boat to get there, great customer service (Larry changed money... More

This was really a nice experience. It's basic, clean and Larry and David keep working on it to fit the needs of the tourists . And honestly, what more do you need when you are in the middle of the jungle and in such a friendly environment? I personally didn't have any trouble with it, but I can imagine that... More

We very much enjoyed the little time spent at El Guacamayo Camp Ground. We stayed in a cabana which was clean & furnished very nicely. We enjoyed a superb dinner and breakfast cooked over an open fire, both included in the price. After breakfast Larry was able to give us a short tour of the unexcavated Mayan ruins located on...
