The Aguada is in Santa Elena, San Ignacio's sister city, just across the bridge over the Macal River. Our room was large and nicely appointed with hot water and a kitchenette. We loved having a pool and ac. Being away from San Ignacio wasn't a problem; we enjoyed the walk through the neighborhoods to San Ignacio and on other occasions... more

This is the only place in Cayo my family stays. The rooms are neat, clean and very affordable. The new rooms -the portion of the property still "under construction"- offer two full beds, AC, TV, fridge and microwave. Spacious bathroom with a low step shower. Usually very calm and quiet atmosphere with lots of bird watching around the watering hole.... more

If you're looking for bang for your buck, the Aguada give the most value for your money than any hotel we can think of in Cayo. The rooms are budget-priced, clean, secure and comfortable. The attached restaurant provided breakfast, lunch and supper. (Try the nachos supreme with cold beer in mid-afternoon) The hotel is perfectly located for quick trips into... more

I was concerned about the crime in San Ignacio and someone recommended Aguada would treat my like family. A dysfunctional family at best. I've never been to an establishment less interested in providing customer service. No water 2 out of 4 days, bed bugs in my room - huge bites on my last day. Only person nice to me was... more

Stayed here four nights last year and loved it, two nights this trip and service was minimal. Booked six days in advance, but waited almost two hours to get into our room. Closed down all day for Easter monday. No food, no drink, no phone. We can't even imagine booking a hotel in the US, then having no staff on... more

We are SO glad we chose this hotel! The lush landscaping includes a natural pond (aguada in Spanish) for fish and birds, and an inviting swimming pool for guests. Rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable with a/c and ceiling fans. The restaurant serves B,L,D and has a full service bar. You can dine indoors or outdoors in a covered patio... more

All in all, for a clean and safe place to stay in Belize, the Aguada was great. My only complaint, and it's a significant one, is the service. The owner and owner's family were wonderful to work with... unfortunately they weren't all that available during our trip and a lot of the service from their staff was very poor when... more

The Butchers have a wonderful place. They treat you like royalty and make you feel like you never want to leave. We were there in the rainy season and the frog songs were breathtaking. Sitting under the palapa enjoying one of their perfect margaritas and listening to the frog's courting songs was one of our favorite memories of our trip.... more

We are often have to make trips to Belize and San Iganacio or Spanish Lookout. We always choose to stay at the Aguada if we can. It's our home away from home. Yes, it's quite a drive from Belize city, but it's worth it when you consider safer and cheaper -- as long as you plan to be in the... more
