Very nice, quaint, little hotel. We got a great deal, $59 a night, any room, Monday through Friday I believe during the winter, the deal is on there website or if you call. We got lucky by getting the last ocean view suite. We could see the boats, cruise ship, pier, etc and hear the waves crashing all night. The... more

Paid <$70 for a room here in mid-September. It's not a 4-star hotel by any measure, but it's located right in the middle of Avalon's main drag, about 25 feet from the beach. Our room was small but clean -- it smelled nice and had a comfy bed. The front desk offers free beach towels, free DVD rentals (for the... more

We just returned from our trip in the busy summer season for a two night mid-week stay at their best ocean view room which had a king sized bed. We paid $250 per night. I'm not gonna say you should or shouldn't stay here because your taste and lifestyle may be different, but we will not spend $250 for this... more

The owner, Karen, is incredibly rude. The hotel staff is unprofessional. The rooms are old, tiny and rundown. The beds and pillows are horrible. The breakfast is pathetic and disgusting (old tiny muffins, dryed out mini-bagels and OJ). The pack-n-plays (cribs) they supply, if they don't give away the ones you reserved, are dangerous and dilapitated...I wouldn't recommend risking your... more

The rates were great. The staff was friendly and helpful, rooms were very clean, courtyard was great. I was worried about the review that said the bar noise was loud, not sure what that was about, we heard nothing and the bar/grill below as closed at 9pm. I will return to hotel mac rae. more

I have stayed at this hotel several times. I always go in winter to avoid high prices and crowds. They usually have a special for Monday through Thursday for winter months, but you have to ask about it - it is not published. This year the special was any room, including ocean from rooms, just $59. I always stay in... more

There are dozens of hotels, bed-and-breakfasts and small inns in Avalon, so why am I returning to the Hotel Mac Rae this November for the seventh year in a row? Simple: clean comfortably furnished rooms and friendly staff that treat guests like family. This hotel also has the most convenient central location on Crescent Avenue, less than 50 feet from... more

The room itself was clean and comfortable but small. Several days before our trip, we called and requested an upgrade to an ocean view room. The view was wonderful; however, the noise was not. Noise from the street below was understandable. Noise from the nearby bar was not. Seems as though there should be some type of curfew for bars.... more

Goods: Price: There was a deal on the website for Sunday night free for a oceanfront room. We took advantage of this over Veteran's Day weekend, when Monday was a holiday anyway. It turned out to cost less than $100/night, great for beach-view Avalon! Location: Overlooks the beach and close to everything. Easy walk from the ferry and to the... more

Aye It's a Good Scottish Name. The first thing I noticed at the entrance was a warning notice that the building was not reenforced against earthquakes. Then there were twenty-seven stone steps up to the office level. The room we stayed at was the smallest hotel room I;ve seen. The glass shower door hit the wash basin. About the only... more
