First impression, wonderful, great location, remote and welcoming. Unfortunately there are a few cupboards at the back of the more impressive rooms that face the water, I got one of those. Beds pushed hard against the Walls so that neighbours heard you when your arm hit the wall during the night along with the snoring! Breakfast did not come with... More

This is a tricky review. Lochmara is such a lovely spot and a very unique and quirky place, that I'm loathe to give it an average review. On balance though, it reflects our stay. We arrived on for the last night of our Queen Charlotte walk, meandering down through the pine forests above the resort and marveling at the wonderful... More

A 15 minute water taxi ride from Picton, Lochmara Lodge is in a beautiful location in the Queen Charlotte Sounds. The lodge rooms are quite basic but certainly clean and comfortable enough and an ok price for what you get. The restaurant is as others have commented the only place to eat once you're at the lodge and it's on... More

Despite a day of bad weather we had a great stay at Lochmara Lodge. We were there 2 nights and found our room to be basic, but very clean and perfectly situated to watch the bay. We even had a small kitchen. The food there was delicious. The meat and fish at dinner were top notch and the breakfasts were... More

Afetr a long day of walking it was wonderful to be met by such friendly and helpful staff. Our room was large and clean and private, with an elevated balcony overlooking the bay. The best surprise was the fabulous restaurant- not only were the menu choices interesting, but were beautifully prepared and presented, and the portions were generous. Our day... More

We stayed in the Luxury Chalet $255 per night. The lodge was in an amazing spot and we had a exellent view from our room! Clean rooms. We stayed for 3 nights and walked up to the hill lookout. Only real disappointment was the terriable bed we had in our room...definately not worth the price we paid. I even slept... More

My wife and I stayed here one night while mountain biking the Queen Charlotte Track. Everything about the lodge was fantastic. Our greeting was friendly, the grounds are very entertaining, the view is gorgeous, and the food superb. Visit the parakeets, the chickens and pigs, learn about the trees, enjoy the art and the sculptures, take advantage of the entire... More

Hi Thanks for the great feedback. We LOVE it when people go explore, regardless of the weather :) and we love hearing that people enjoyed themselves. Hopefully next time we can turn on the sun for you. Chef Jon says thanks for the feedback too. More

We chose to stay here for 2 nights after our daughter made a day visit last year and recommended it. Unfortunately it rained the whole time we were there, so we couldn't do any of the walks or even enjoy the outside areas of the property ... but it was still very enjoyable and we gots lots of reading done!... Thanks for the great feedback. We do get day trippers and there are lots of areas to hang out so that is great advice for travellers. Hopefully next time we can get some sun for you - or get you out in kayaks so it doesn't matter if you get wet!! More

We stayed for a few nights in October. We were met from the boat by Louise and walked to our lodge which was a lovely touch, but the room was freezing! We had paid extra to stay in a luxury lodge and the lodge was nice enough, but hardly "luxury". I appreciate Lochmara is environmentally conscious but an extra towel... More

Hi. Thanks for the honest review, all feedback is important to us - we want to get to that 100% so we'll take it on board. Our rooms have been designed for maximum heat/cool efficiency, but in October they can get cold and so we do have heaters in every room, as well as wood fires in the cafe and... More

Oustanding! Thanks! Even more outstanding was the RWC win, yee ha! Worth travelling home for eh? Thanks for the feedback - we've kept that rugby kicking game, but it's still not an easy goal. The first person to get it in was an Aussie, so nice to see some NZers keeping up our side too :). We've got a range... More
