Fabulous location and friendly & helpful staff. However for $270 for the room for one night, I would expect a better standard in the room, a powerful shower and 4 star finishing. Also, why is there Sky TV in the bar but not available in the rooms? Maybe the management are just living off the location just a little too... more

This review forms part of 3 hotel reviews as we went on Queen Charlotte 5 Day Walk with The Adventure Company and they arranged these 3 hotels for us to stay during our walk. So we review: - Furneaux Lodge Resort - Punga Cove Resort - Portage Resort Hotel In this review, we review Portage Resort Hotel. We stayed for... more

We stayed here for one night as part of a pre-booked package to cycle the Queen Charlotte Track. It is situated in a stunning location, looking out over the Sounds and the room we stayed in made the most of the view (not all rooms are the same) The room was very comfortable, with a spacious balcony with table and... more

Overlooking the Marlborough Sounds, the views are simply stunning. Our room was large, with a sunny balcony looking out to sea. The bathroom was large but freezing due to usual lack of insulation that is prevalent in NZ. Communal areas are modern and trendy, with a nice open fire, hot tub, terrace and small swimming pool, all within metres of... more

We were disappointed by our experience at Portage. Following a fantastic stay at Punga Resort earlier on the Queen Charlotte Track, we had set our sights high. For the same price, at Portage we stayed in a box of a room (thank goodness it wasn't high summer as it would have been boiling hot). Twin beds were right next to... more

Backpacking the Queen Charlotte Track. Clean, bright, well maintained. The rooms were totally basic - beds only squashed in. Reasonable kitchen, clean, well equipped but could do with more saucepans. But WHY only 2 showers/toilets nominally labelled for men & women, but needs more than double that. Why have large empty spaces combining the shower and toilet in the same... more

We recently stayed in one of Portage Resort's 2 spa suites as part of our 4 weeks round new zealand trip. We would really recommend that you don't make the same mistake! It must be said that the resort is great for backpackers/walkers and maybe Kiwi's on family holidays (with lots of kids!) but if you want luxury and quality... more

We were hiking the Queen Charlotte Track, and booked a "superior room" for the second night. Room OK, with balcony and views over Kenepuru Sound, but it was raining. This had two consequences: you get wet going to the restaurant in another building, and you are kept awake at night by the rain on the roof. Even when it's not... more

We booked the backpackers resort as we were a little unsure of the Portage due to mixed reviews on trip advisor. However when booking our water taxi for Queen Charlotte Track the taxi company told us the backpackers had been bought by Portage Resort. We arrived tired and wet after 28km walk and the reception staff were lovely. The backpacker... more
