The food in the dining room was ghastly and ridiculously expensive -- 30 Euro for a so-called "menu,", straight off the steam table, wh. included gooey slabs of not-so-freshly roasted lamb, a pile of overcooked black-colored spinach -- the other choice, odd-looking oval shaped "hamburgers" breaded and fried of mystery meat. Nearly $100.00 for two, without drinks. When we complained, the management said they'd never had a complaint before. They gave us a 20% discount. This was hospital food -- and though fried and greasy, was labeled "diet food," for spa-goers. The hotel doesn't seem to cater to Western European tastes, judging from this food. I heard mostly Russian in the dining room. The Russian consulate is next door, and the Russian Orthodox Church next to it. It's a 15 min. walk to the downtown area where the restaurants are. The office staff was less than helpful when I asked for a restaurant recommendation outside the hotel. more
