We stayed two nights at Hawthorne House recently as part of our honeymoon. We were greeted by Mike and enjoyed his welcoming afternoon tea with fresh scones. Mike has a great local knowledge and recommended two divine restaurants for us to experience while we were there - making reservations for us to boot! As part of our stay, Mike also... More

A wonderfully warm and friendly interlude in our NZ holiday. Loved the style and outlook of the restored old home, lovey rooms and warm and welcoming fire in the lounge. Mike's friendly welcome, good advice on the region and fabulous breakfast just added to the joy. It's a lovey rural retreat but close enough to everything, and well worth the... More

A country house with a lot of character and a great host make Hawthorne House the perfect B&B to explore Hawkes Bay region. From the minute you arrive you feel at home, with Mike's hospitality making the difference between good and great. Nice and comfortable rooms with all the facilities you could wish for. Mike's extensive suggestions for places to... More

We visited Hawthorne House on our honeymoon. We stayed there for 2 nights. We had a lovely time. Mike was very welcoming and obviously enjoys hosting guests. Prior to our arrival, I had contacted Mike to ask him about restaurants in the area. He was really helpful and gave me lots of information (we had great meals at Black Barn... More

We went to Hawkes Bay this past weekend and had the pleasure of staying at Hawthorne House. Right from the turn into the driveway you know you are onto something special. Mike greeted us upon arrival and carried our bags and welcomed us warmly to his lovely home. Shortly after arrival we were treated to delicious home made scones, fresh... More

We stayed 2 nights at this charming B&B while exploring the Hawkes Bay wine region. Mike was a fabulous host who clearly has an appreciation for good food and wine. He made several good recommendations for wineries and restaurants and assisted in booking when needed. All the food on offer for afternoon tea, pre-dinner nibbles and breakfast come from the... More

Two things stand out for me about Hawthorne House - Mike and the Food. Firstly, Hawthorne House is really well situated, close to Havelock North, Hastings and not too far from Napier. It has great access to local vineyards, scenery and I really enjoyed the complimentary round of golf. The Hawkes Bay is very beautiful, and well worth a visit... More

Mike and Mel have a wonderful B & B - luxurious, comfortable and in a gorgeous setting. But all that doesn't compare to the hospitality and friendliness - afternoon tea on arrival, drinks before dinner, helpfulness in recommending (and booking!) local activities and restaurants that were right on the money. And if you are love food - Mike cooks an... More

Great example of "those little things that make a difference". Beautifully restored colonial house with all the modern comforts including very nice modern en suites, bathroom products and Wifi. Mike the host is the epitome of helpfulness, no request eluding his cheerful reach. Also great local produce and perfect breakfasts. Very handy to all major sites in the area from... More
