We only spent one night in this backpackers. Did not feel at all like budget accommodation. Great bed, great heating, great kitchen, great internet, warm living-room. The rooms were a bit small (2 of us, 3 bags...). For that price, we would have enjoyed a private ensuite bathroom. The bathrooms were a bit far away from the bedrooms.

We stayed at Old Bones for one night in our campervan. There are 4 powered and 4 unpowered sites about 50m from the lodge, with great views towards the ocean. We used the lodge kitchen, showers etc., which were almost new, of hotel standard, and spotlessly clean. Easily the best quality we experienced in the whole of our 4 weeks... More

We stayed for a night at Old Bones. It is a very cozy place, and makes your feel right at home. Old Bones is about a 10 minutes drive away from the main town of Oamaru ( I think it is almost impossible to get to Old Bones if you do not have a car), but we certainly appreciate the... More

As all the previous reviews state, this place is great and reviews justified. We only stayed here one night but wish it could have been longer. Warm welcome, great facilities and lovely big lounge to relax in. Make sure you go down to the beach at night and you might see some porpoises like we did and look out the... More

Stayed here for one night and were impressed by how nice this place is. This is a popular backpackers and it is definitely not overrated. Located near to the Kakanui beach reserve, Oamaru. The property is surrounded by sheep farm, with breathtaking view out to the ocean. Gloria, is a very nice host, giving all the help we need during... More

We stayed here last night and couldn't get over how nice this place is. The current owners have been here for a year and again you will not find nicer people. Helpful attentive and we got some hens eggs for lunch. The view out to the ocean is via 12 meters of windows next to a wood burning stove what... More

WOW! Still the best hostel in NZ I have stayed in! Absolutely breathtaking place, quite a retreat! It was quiet and I mostly had the place to myself that night, so it was very peaceful and a good chance to recharge the batteries. The rooms all come off a beautiful main room centred around a wood burning stove with one... More

We had read the BBH reviews on this hostel and felt very lucky to be able to make a reservation.....as there are not very many rooms in this incredible hostel!! And, how lucky we were! This little "round" and very new hostel is fabulous!!! Hard to believe that this place is not booked solidly every day of the year. The... More

This was a luxury backpackers. One of the best places we stayed in during our month in NZ. We stayed for 2 nights and could happily have stayed for more as the atmosphere was so friendly and relaxed and in an idyllic location right by the sea . The living area was clean, comfortable and well planned for communal living.... More
