On arrival, after a long journey, this backpackers seemed dingey and grim from the outside. We were initially unsure whether to stay or not, but very glad we did. After a very friendly welcome we made our way through the homely surroundings to our bedroom, equipped with hot water bottles, heaters, extra pillows/duvets and a tv/dvd with an unlimited DVD... Loved this place! Okay, so probably needs a lick of paint and bit of an overhaul, but what it lacks in aesthetics, it sure makes up for in welcome! Whole place is quirky, with lots of little extras not seen elsewhere! Kitchen is big and spacious and loved the fact that they embrace the whole 'green' thing, with locally sourced... More

I found Neptune through BBH and decided to stay even though it had a low score and I'm glad I did. The backpacker has all the facilities promised (FREE WIFI, SCONES, etc.) and on top of that the manager (Amy) and the working girls where very helpfull. The Backpacker is an old hotel and you still have the feeling there.... More

Top notch accommodation. I chose it for the sweet name and good price and was prepared to sacrifice for it. No such thing - clean, friendly, free wifi, comfortable, and free scones to top it off. I enjoyed my stay there and wished I had more time to spend. Greymouth is nothing special, but it has beautiful sunsets and, honestly,... More

We parked our vans some where else and the chief Chris told us to go to Neptunes and ask for Amy, so we did. Being 35 and older the 4 of us were a bit reserved about staying at a backpackers place. But it was fantastic. Vans at the parkingplaces and use of al the facilities. One thing: Amy makes... More

New to backpacking we were not sure what to expect. Amy gave us a great welcome and put us at our ease. Later she invited a group to see the sunset down on the beach and this was great for socialising. All the facilities you might need were there and our bedroom was perfectly clean. The general ambience of Neptunes... More

Neptunes is an amazing place to stay and eventho the house is a little older its great and got its own awesome personality. Facilities are great (bath!!, BBQ, big kichen, pool table, free scones and so on) and the rooms are big and comfy. The Managerin, Amy is a lovely, very helpful, good-mood girl that makes your stay exremely enjoyable... More

Often backpackers' hostels lack character. Not so at Neptunes. I enjoyed my stay here, though it reminded me a lot of the kind of run-down family-owned hotels you get in English seaside towns. The building definitely feels and looks like a big converted house and the spacious lounge and dining room areas add to that sense. The place feels like... More

Well located backpacker in Greymouth. Staff was very friendly and the free internet is for sure a plus. Rooms are big and so is the common area. Whole place feels a bit aged but is still neat and tidy. Isolation in the bathrooms could be better...
