We reached Greymouth from Christchurch by the trans alpine train. This hotel was the worst accommodation of my entire New Zealand trip. It is outdated and dirty. It felt as if I was staying in a hostel and not a hotel. The lobby and restaurant is ok but the rooms are pathetic. In which hotel on this earth you would... More

Our room was much the same as other reviewer's description with the added complaint of a dirty bathroom that I would never use the bath in! We stayed for one night only, thankfully, and got little sleep because we could hear every word our neighbours said (or snored). Yes the staff were nice and the parking great, but really just... Greymouth doesnt have much to see by way of attractions, and staying at a poor quality hotel certainly doesnt help. Kingsgate hotel Greymouth was the worst hotel during our NZ stay. The rooms were small, damp and dark, the appliances could be called outdated at worst, and the building seemed to be untouched from the late 18th century! The hotel... More

The room was very much like one from the 60's with a wood panel headboard and a stale smell reminiscent of old houses. We were very disappointed after having stayed in a very nice one earlier in Paithia. It seems the standard vary in every place. They should have a different rating for the one in Greymouth as it fell... More

I thought I had gotten into a time machine when walking into this room, the bathroom and decor have not been touched since the 1960's!! The room was so small, we had booked for a couple and our room had a double and a single bed in it making it very cosy. Our room also had a glass door, which... More

We recently stayed at this hotel for 2 days last week. I was a bit disappointed as the room we were given was on the ground floor with a glass door opening onto the patio where patrons could walk in off the street and hotel guests used for dining and drinks. Felt very uncomfortable there as we could not leave... More

The hotel should upgrade its facilities to be at par with other hotels. The bathroom facilities are too outdated. The taps are not of the mixer type. Generally too old fashioned for my liking. More

We spent one night at this hotel after travelling on the TranzAlpine. Check-in was very brisk with instructions of where our room was. From the reception area as you progressed thru the building the decor slowly deteriorated. Our room was large but badly in need of a major update. The carpet was in good order but very dated and the... More

I have seen this Hotel self described as "clean and comfortable" and I would agree. It is dated and tired, but if you get it for a reasonable price and don't have too high expectations then it will be fine. The communal areas are quite pleasant and the staff appeared friendly but the rooms themselves (standard) are getting a bit... More

Thank you for your feedback, we acknowledge that we are not the most modern hotel. We believe that we compensate for this by offering a range of accommodation that suits most budgets, that is clean and comfortable along with friendly and honest professional staff. More

Greymouth was particularly grey when I visited and sadly the hotel didn't help, as my room was damp smelling and very much in need of refurbishment. The paper was peeling from the walls on one section and the bathroom, whilst clean, was the peachy color that was popular in the 1970's - with chipped enamel and old-fashioned fixings. The room...
