Stayed at Olembia with my husband and daughter in their upstairs family room. I was extremely impressed by the cleanliness of the guest house, friendliness and helpfulness of staff and loved the communal areas. Lounge room with huge bay window and fireplace and dining room from a bygone era. The atmosphere has an effect on guests too I guess, making... more

This place is the best hostel i stayed in in Australia. This is the only hostel that allowed me to check in early (4 hours early). On arrival they said that the room I had booked had people who were sleeping in it and rather than wake them up they upgraded me to a single room for no extra charge.... more

Mattress was too old and soft. You can see the u shape bending inward. Me and my sister had back pain after sleeping on this mattress for 3 nights. Dirty carpet. Bring your own slippers. Clean communal kitchen. Quiet place. Reasonable price so you see the tradeoff. more

Stayed at the Olembia during the 2008 F1 Grand Prix, so the prices were a little higher than usual - but still ok value. Its 10 mins walk to the GP circuit, 10 mins walk into Central St Kilda & the tram stops into the city - perfect location really. Its an old style house, which was a blessing really... more

This is just the perfect place to stay in Melbourne, its clean, the hostel looks really really nice so that you feel very comfortable! The double rooms are furnished so lovely! The living room is a lovely place to read a book near the fire-place! And the location is not bad either! Located 5 minutes from all the bars in... more

The reception is friendly and helpful. Sitting room, TV room, kitchen good also. Kitchen is well organized in the way that ppl can... more

I stayed at the Olembia for four days the first week of March. It was a great experience that enhanced my trip to Melbourne. The Olembia is small and very quiet. Travellers looking to party would be better served staying at Base up the street. There is a clean kitchen and the rooms and bathrooms are immaculate. There is a... more

We stayed at the Olembia over the Commonwealth games period. Initially we booked this hotel because there were no others available in our price range. It was good to see that the Olembia hadn't doubled their price like most other hotels & backpackers had. We found the staff extremely helpful and the other guests friendly. We stayed in a double... more

Stayed at the Olembia while attending a conference in downtown Melbourne (well connected with public transportation). Stayed in a room facing the main road, therefore noise levels in room varied with the traffic level. Room also had three single beds though I had booked for a single. There was no desk, chair or handbasin in the room and overall the... more
