By far the best place we stayed during our 3-week trip to the South Island. This is a "self-contained" accommodation, but also includes a great breakfast too. "The best kept secret of the west coast" was the advertisement for Karamea, the Opara-Basin, and the limestone arches, and we (German) met a lot of New Zealander's who had not heard of it yet! Karamea is literally the end of the road north of Westport. The lodge is a house and the owners live in another house 50 meters away. The setting is very pleasant and quiet. Peaceful,elegant beach house. Our families rented the entire lodge for five nights after Christmas. The property was immaculate, new and modern.
