We generally stay here the night before/after trekking. It's okay - VERY basic. It needs a massive overhaul and a new paint job. The reception staff probably need a customer service refresher course also (it's nice to look up from the computer when someone is standing at the desk!). I cant believe the conditions in this hotel - the hotel rooms were disgusting. Stains on the doona, the carpets were not vaccuumed under the beds where there were crumbs, empty pill packets and a champagne cork. The room also had a blood stain on the wall, cob webs,the cups and glasses were not cleaned properly and generally poor cleaning.... More

We have stayed here a couple of times before and after tramps/hikes in the great south west of New Zealand. The staff are always friendly but the rooms are really tired and in desperate need of demolishing or drastic renovation. Beds are saggy. Sliding door locks are all dodgy. Rooms were okay, but carpets and rooms were old and worn. It's up a hill above Queenstown, providing quite a workout if walking to/from town. Overall, service was very nice. More
