Stayed one night in this very clean hostel. The kitchen is huge and there is a nice dining room in which to eat. As usual with YHA hostels the bathrooms are kept spotless and everything is well-organised. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. More

stayed heer for a few nights. room was a little small, we had 6 beds - 2 bunks and 2 singles, one of the beds was super squeeky though. room was clean, as were the bathrooms - they have some interesting facts in the toilet cubicles! the kitchen is a good size and clean! there were 2 dining areas you... I chose the YHA because it was the cheapest accommodation I could find at short notice. I wasn't expecting a huge amount, having stayed at other YHAs around New Zealand and not had the best experience. The building is quite spectacular, though if you have heavy bags to get upstairs, it can be a pain as there are a lot... More

YHA Dunedin is located in a quiet part of town and is about 15 minutes walk to the restaurants/bars/cinema at The Octagon and 20 minutes to Countdown supermarket. The building is rather old and the interiors dark. They have a quaint little kitchen. Was in a 4 bed dorm (bunk beds) and felt that the room was cramped. Look out... More

We loved our stay at Stafford Gables! It is an old hospital that has been converted into accommodation and has hallways and staircases that lead all kinds of places! Good kitchen, clean bathrooms, modest rooms. The only downfall was the hike up a hill to get back to the accommodation after a trip to the city. We had a car... More

I was surprised wifi wasn't only not free but also crazy expensive. Staff weren't as friendly as you'd like. But the bathrooms are fantastic. Couldn't compare to competition price wise but you're probably paying for the old world stuff. Locating is really bad. If you're the lively type the neighbourhood will make you miss home More

This was a welcome stop on our trip home from Milford Sound to Queenstown. We had a friendly reception when we arrived and were given directions on great places to go for dinner. The hostel is in an old hospital ward and has lots of character. Our room was cosy and clean, it's nothing flashy but it was a great... More

this is an old rambling Victorian building (once a hospital). the staff are welcoming and very helpful if you want directions or to book trips anywhere. There are several lounges, one with tv, one with internet and one just to hang out, so you can select the noise level that suits you. Drawbacks are that is it quite a hike... More

This was a lovely old building and a good stroll from the town, but not really that far. We stayed only one night as we were just passing through, but we were disappointed. We stayed in much nicer places for the same money. We stayed in the apartment which definitely had character, but it was old and 'tired' and needed... More

This place was a great change to all the other backpackers we had stayed in across NZ. This old hospital make a great backpackers. We stayed in the apartment which had its own bathroom and kitchen and had 1 bedroom with 1 double and 1 single bed. The place was clean and we were glad there was a heater in... More
