Poor Christchurch has many demolished (or about to be) buildings these days, but Colombo in the City is in perfect shape and a joy to stay in. Rusell, at the front desk, is very helpful in knowing what is now open and what is great to see. I'd recommend the Botanical Gardens and the Canterbury Museum as two "must dos". More

We arrived at Colombo in the City at 1am on Christmas Day 2011. Although the motel was closed we had very clear instructions of where to find our key and we got it with no trouble. Stayed here for 1 night after landing in NZ for a tour of the south island, and could happily have stayed longer. Pleasant rooms, friendly staff and good proximity to the centre of Christchurch (although looking at the after effects of the earthquake does sadden me). More

Stayed here from the 15th through 17th of Oct. Rooms were large and clean. the choc's on the bedside table were a nice touch. the staff were very friendly and happy to assist where they can. Only downside would be the location, not really handy to anything until the red zone reopens. having said that, have rental car, will travel.... More
