My wife and I stayed here for a total of 5 nights on travelling to and from the South island. This is an older hotel but rooms are clean with comfortable bed. Centrally located for food court, supermarket, shops and bars. It has an equipped kitchen with microwave and oven, also laundry facilities. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.

On a recent trip to the South Island I had the opportunity to stay at the Halswell Lodge in Wellington. It is located about five minutes from the InterIsland Ferry terminal in downtown Wellington. I stayed with another traveller in a two bedroom suite. As is the case with many Kiwi Motels the main bedroom offered a king size bed... More

Very small room but well located for the main area where the bars and restaurants are located. The double room was clean though with Sky TV, kettle, fridge, tea, coffee and towels provided and the staff were helpful and friendly. Another plus was off street parking.

We travelled 5 adults for the Rugby Sevens, booked on-line at reasonable rates - a twin hotel room and a motel room with a kitchen. Email correspondence with Alex was very helpful and informative right up to our stay. We checked in with no problems, cleaning staff were great and free parking was a bonus. I stayed in the twin... We stayed at this motel from the 26th Jan 2012 to 28th Jan 2012. A good location, but OMG the noise from the two dilapidated student houses next door partying ALL NIGHT was just not acceptable. In fact we cut our trip short and took an earlier flight home, due to exhaustion from no sleeps for several days. Management where... More

There are three price types at this hotel and we stayed in the cheapest. The bedroom was a good size (queen and twin bed) and the ensuite bathroom was adequate. The shower was good and lots of hot water. The beds were comfy and clean. Really the only complaint was the windows were filthy and the ledges covered in grit... More

We stayed three nights at the Halswell and were given the front room, facing the road. Even on a Monday night we were woken at 2am by the backpackers from across the street. Not to mention the constant traffic noise. The room was quite hot, but we couldn't open the window because of the noise. Hotel room was dated and... More

We stayed here on a two bedroom unit on recent family holiday. These had to be the smallest two bedrooms we have ever come across. They were also run done and in need of some maintenance work. One room had a spot light that shone right in the window all night, great for a child who thought it was morning... More

Agree with the comment below. This was the worst accommodation that my wife and I stayed in during our 6 weeks following the magnificent Welsh Team to the RWC semi-final (where we got mugged by an Irish/French ref). On the positive side the location was ideal and the staff and management were extremely friendly and helpful. However the rooms were... More

A group of us stayed at the motel during the Quarter Finals of the World Cup. The Halswell Motel ticked all the boxes for us - great location, friendly staff, clean and a top notch shower. The rate was good. The Wallabies knocked off the Springboks as well which made our stay even more enjoyable!
