We were there for 3 nights. The place could be very very nice, however we could tell that it was not taken care, the kitchen was dirty and everything looked like it hadnt been cleaned in weeks. The rooms were OK, but also seemed like not deep clean. The best of the hotel was the manager, a really nice person,... More

Thankyou for your review and comments. Generally we have received very good comments / rating stars for the cleaniness of rooms and, despite being a property over a hundred years old, our staff try hard to maintain this daily A previous review headed "Rustic, clean and good value" is what we strive for and on this occasion we appear to... We had a nice room, even with four people sleeping in it, it did not feel cramped. Free internet and free off-street parking. Just leave your car there (many streets in Wellington are one-way and paid parking everywhere) because an easy stroll through Cuba street with it's many nice shops and restaurants will get you to Te Papa museum on... We had a lovely three night stay. Great location, great views from the balcony of our double room, and great personable service. Yes, the building is older (it's in the historic district) but it's clean and much roomier than other places. There's a variety of cafe's and restaurants less than 10 minutes' walk away on quirky Castro Street, and the... More

The manager of this quirky establishment made sure we were comfy - but the facilities were minimal ie no cooking implements despite a microwave. Two kitchens available but seemed to be used primarily by uni students. Hilly climb back up from town. At least we could catch the premiere of The Hobbit in the director's home town.

I have travelled New zealand for 11months. I checked heaps of backpackers in which stressed "Budget" but Most of them had poor service. Even they were rude to their customer. I checked in this hostel about a month ago(actually i wrote this recommendation in South Korea). Philip, the hostel owner, is easy going, well-organised and considerate to people. Facilities are good... More

I've learnt pretty fast that the Loney Planet is only good to find a decent accomodation in NZ. For all other activities you really need to have the NZ FRENZY! But, The Carillon is the spot to be when you're staying in Wellington for a night or two (as I did, after having talked to Philip for an hour as... More

This was the craziest stop on our journey through New Zealand! Like the "Lonely Planet" wrote, this location is amazing. It is a little bit difficult to find (by car), but when you are there, the surprise is perfect. The staff is especially different from all others we have met before - it was pure fun. From the motel it... More

This place is perfectly located, with a great shortcut to the city centre! The manager was very funny and had good knowledge of the area. I thought the room was good value for money and would recommend it!
