Staying at Mount Tutu Eco Sanctuary was a great experience. Tim and Debbie were excellent hosts Their knowledge of and enthusiasm for the environment was very compelling. They have restored their land beautifully to native bush and have painstakingly created pathways through their land to allow you to explore their rainforest. The highlight for us was the magical glow worm... More

The Mount Tutu Eco-Sanctuary will make you feel you are in the middle of a beautiful rainforest, but with all the comforts of a motel/B&B. The hosts are incredibly informative and friendly, the breakfast substantial and the area just breathtaking. We were really surprised and pleased that this lodge was only 20minutes from Tauranga, so there is no need to... More

If you want an unforgettable experience then stay at Mount Tutu Eco-Sanctuary. It's a beautiful place just outside of Tauranga. The owners, Tim and Debbie, made our stay exceptionally great. They were the perfect host and hostess. The guided tour of their backyard was fantastic! The evening glow worm tour was magical and unforgettable! Best to experience it yourself than... More

got this accommodation as a Christmas gift from my parents, was a beautiful setting and very relaxing. Had an amazing bed and the walk around the grounds was just breath taking! Plus the Tutu sheep were very beautiful. Would definitely recommend it.

My wife and I spent a few days in the eco-sanctuary in March 2011. Reflecting on this experience one year later, we both feel that our stay at the lodge was one of the highlights of a fantastic vacation in New Zealand. Tim and Debby took us to see the glow worms on a magical night. The image of tiny... More

“Welcome to Paradise”, our hosts said as we arrived at Mount Tutu Eco-Sanctuary. A cup of tea made with local spring water, served with homemade biscuits, was a tasty treat after the 18-kilometre drive up into the hills behind Tauranga. I had won a night for two complete with meals, a glowworm tour and rainforest walk, simply by ‘liking’ the... More

We enjoyed our stay at Mt Tutu but the room was a little small for our needs and there weren't many facilities at the venue. However, the breakfasts were delicious, the service was lovely and we got a tour of the rainforest in the sanctuary and a wonderful glow worm tour where they were so close we could have touched... Surfing on tripadvisor searching for where I should stay for my trip in New Zealand, by luck I bumped into this "specialty lodging". Unlike other specialty lodgings, this is an eco-sanctuary! At first, I worried about staying here, because from the website, it looked so primitive like in the middle of forest. I had almost given up staying here until... More

We stayed for 2 nights in August. Tim and Debbie were very welcoming with tea and cake on arrival and the glow worm and bush walks were fantastic. Tim is very knowledgable. There was a guest lounge with a bar which was useful as the rooms are very small. Our room was damp and cold on arrival but it was... More

Thank you for your review. We enjoyed meeting you and sharing our Nature Sanctuary with you. It is our practice to have the heating on during winter before guests arrive. We apologise it did not happen on this occasion. Following a room re-arrangement, this was the only Bush Whare that temporarily did not have a provision for clothes. This has... More

This was my first trip to New Zealand and I was really curious and looking for something a bit different. I found New Zealanders to be incredibly friendly and hospitable; none more so than Tim and Debbie Short, my hosts. They are a wonderful wealth of natural history information and never tired of my questions! This is a lovely, restful... More
