My mother and I stayed at this hostel in 2005 and despite the tiny double room, and the "mixed" bathroom, it was very comfortable and cozy and clean. Large kitchen gets crowded at night and for breakfast, but fits everyone and it´s well equiped. Though the bathrooms are "mixed" its well planned since every toilet cubicle is fully "isolated" .... Taupo YHA was really good, friendly staff, good kitchen, global gossip internet, tv room, everything was clean, bed was nice!

A nice, clean hostel with a good kitchen. So many stairs to climb though, esp with heavy bags. A nice view off the sundeck. Far enough away from the crazy bars and loud music of Taupo... but almost a block too far.... Unisex bathroom fine, except for men who don't close the door to their toilet stalls, wtf?

Our sheets on our bed were gross. We even found a pube on one of our pillowcases. The kitchen was tiny and so was the lounge. We couldn't use the lounge at all and had to wait befoe we could use the kitchen, which is only enough to fit one cooking team in at a time. We could hear EVERYONE,... More

YHA Taupo is a nice, quiet hostel. I stayed for a night in May 2011 in a quad sharing room which had all single beds which is great. The hostel may seem a little small relative to the number of people it is meant to accommodate. They could do with more toilets and showers.

Nice friendly staff, good deck area leading off from the kitchen. I had the luxury of not sleeping in a bunkbed for a night! Shower room was tiny, not sure a fuller figure would fit!
